Mangaluru, Sep 2: M K Harishchandra (85), renowned boat builder and engineer, who also happened to be a magnanimous donor, is no more. Harishcnadra was the most influential personality belonging to the Devadiga community in Dakshina Kannada district. His end came in a private hospital in the city on Tuesday September 1.
M K Harishchandra was known to be a highly honest and upright person who never lost hope in the face of most difficult and adverse circumstances. He was a resident of Shaktinagara here.
He is survived by wife Vimala, daughter Sharmila Sherigar settled in Dubai, sons Uday and Nanda Kishore, besides many other family members and scores of close ones and fans.
Harishchandra had come up in life with his own hard work. In 1973, he set up Marine Crafts and Equipment Company at Bunder here. He was a simple human being with a good heart. He was polite by nature, very dedicated and kept his hopes always high even in the face of adverse situations and circumstances.
The then union government had bestowed on him the 'Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini' national award being given to excellent achievers on November 19, 1995 on the occasion of the 76th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, the late Indira Gandhi, in recognition of his service in the field of industry. He had functioned as trustee of Lord Anantha Padmanabha temple, Kudupu, and extended help to various temples for renovation and reconstruction.
His son-in-law Harish Sherigar, renowned entrepreneur from Dubai, who founded Acme Building Materials Trading LLC, UAE and Oman, who also happens to be a producer of Kannada and Tulu movies, staff of his concern, relatives and fans have offered condolences to the bereaved family at the demise of this great human being.
