Bengaluru, Sep 3: On Thursday, September 3 morning, education minister Suresh Kumar shared an incident on Facebook. He said he decided to share the incident with the hope that it will inspire the people and give rise to an urge in them to do something for the society with human concern. He also shared some pictures.

Kumar said that he visited a slum area located in Vinayaka Nagar 9th block within Nagarbavi area at around 7 am on Thursday. The area is full of construction workers. "I was touched by the scene of Annapoorneshwari Nagar police sub-inspector Shanthappa Jadammanavar teaching lessons to the children of the poor families there. He has been teaching maths and general knowledge to the children from third to seventh standards. The police officer has been engaged in this work since the last 15 days," the minister explained.

The minister says he talked to these children, posed some questions and got answers from them. "When I wanted to know from the police officer how he got the idea of teaching the children, Shanthappa told me that he too is the son of a migrant worker from Ballari. He said he is aware of the problems faced by these people and therefore he volunteered to do this work. He told me that he teaches the children before going to the police station in the morning. I am proud of such a police officer. At a time when departments hog the limelight for wrong reasons, such incidents can enhance the honour of the police department," Suresh Kumar said.

Kumar mentioned that he talked to all the families there and made them take a pledge not to stop children's education in between, and not to marry off the girls at a young age. He said he salutes to police sub-inspector Shanthappa for his humane service to the people facing difficulties who are in genuine need of such gestures.

Perhaps the minister could have arranged admission to the children in nearby government
    schools.
