15 Karnataka districts to launch animal ambulances

Bengaluru, Sep 3 (IANS): Animal Husbandry Department officials in 15 Karnataka districts will soon launch domestic animal ambulances to cater to their welfare, an official said on Thursday.

"Fifteen districts will launch the ambulances in the first phase, followed by the balance 15 districts in phase 2. Already, approval for the second phase has also been granted," Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services department Additional Director Jayanna told IANS.

Though phase 2 has also been approved, the funding is yet to be released because of the disruption caused by coronavirus.

The state government has asked the respective district in-charge ministers to preside over the unveilings of the ambulances.

Hassan district in-charge minister K. Gopalaiah is expected to preside over the ceremony on Thursday in the district.

Explaining the rationale behind launching ambulances, Jayanna said the move is aimed at creating ambulances for animals on the lines of such vehicles for humans under the Health and Family Welfare Department.

"Under Health and Family Welfare Department there is 108 ambulance service and on the same lines the animal ambulance service will function," he said.

These ambulances will be of great help in the event of referral cases which cannot be attended by local veterinarians.

"If it is an accident case or an emergency or an operation and beyond the capacity of a local vet, the ambulance is provided with expert veterinary care and necessary equipment," said Jayanna.

On receiving a call from people in need of medical attention for their animals, an expert vet, staff and equipment available in the ambulance will rush to the spot to treat the animal.

Importantly, the ambulance is also equipped with an operation theatre for small animals.

However, the ambulance facility is only available for domestic animals and not wild ones which have the entire forest department to care for them.

Cattle, sheep, goats, dogs and other domestic animals will benefit.

The department has incurred a cost of Rs 2 crore for the 15 vehicles.

My Dear Karnataka Government Officials, can we have required Ambulances for Human Beings first. Then we think of animals. Why are we missing on our priorities and focus. What is wrong with our Govt officials these days? We have heart breaking news of poor people walking miles, taking bodies on bicycles, vegetable carts, on their backs, few in their own hands? Are we trying to be blind, deaf and dumb towards poor people , common man and trying to get ambulances for animals? Why are we wasting tax payers money? So are you trying to prove that you car for animals more than human beings lives?
So my advise is that let us put our priorities straight:- please ensure we have enough ambulances for human beings. While we do have ambulances, ensure the staff on duty responds quickly and attend to the calls and act swiftly.

Govt has no money to pay subsidy for gas cylinders. Only particular group of people got free funds from Govt and free ration from Govt though all people suffered due to covid 19.

Street dogs bite people , kills people and children , responsible for many accidents two wheeler riders. No care by Govt.

Instead ambulance arrange one veterinary doctor to the district who can attend emergency . And very important need is ashram for destitute animals. Do that first.

Ambulance not at all required. Rich people have animals at home they take care of their animals. They not even depend upon the ambulances.

The condition of the Indian healthcare system can be gauged from the fact that there are only 25,851 ambulances for about 130 crore people across the country, MoS for Health, recently informed the Lok Sabha. Average one for 50,000 citizens.

A large number of people die due to unavailability of ambulance services during an emergency, especially in rural areas. In 2016, about 30% of total deaths in road accidents occurred due to inaccessibility of ambulance.

Instead of carrying sick people on bullock carts, hand carts and on stretchers, at least, I hope, govt will allow these animal ambulances to carry sick humans, when such ambulances are not in use. World is watching our promises made, and the reality.

First they should have sufficient ambulances for humans. For eg. Udupi district has only one govt ambulance to ferry covid patients. Sad state of affairs with misplaced priorities..!!

    Why dear?
What bad animals have done for you?
If someone had done bad for you so far, it is definitely not animals, but a human.
If you made someone sacrifice life for your food, it is animal
If you want to discriminate someone, you compare it with animals...

And you claim yourself as HUMAN?
Human and Humanity does not mean "being greedy and jealousy"
