Mangaluru, Sep 4: The number of coronavirus infection-related deaths are increasing day by day in the district of Dakshina Kannada. So far 381 people have died of Covid-19 infection. However, according to a report, among the dead 95.3% had other diseases also. In addition, most of the dead are in the age group of 60 to 80 years.
Earlier, in an interview given to Daijiworld, acting district health officer Dr Ratnakar had said that most of the people who died in the Dakshina Kannada district from coronavirus infection are in the age group of 60 to 70 years. In addition, most of the dead were suffering from co-morbid diseases related to kidney, liver, lungs, heart and blood cancer. So according to Dr Ratnakar, in these cases the primary cause of death would be non-coronavirus. He also said that it is not right to count these deaths as related to coronavirus ones.

Now in a report, which upholds the statement of Dr Ratnakar, it has come to light that most of the people who have died of coronavirus infection in the district had other co-morbid health condition also.
According to the statistics, from March 25 to September 2, 218 (57.21%) people have died of coronavirus in Mangaluru taluk. The corresponding figures for Bantwal is 46 (12.08%), Beltangady 11 (2.88%), Puttur 23 (6.03%), Sullia four (1.04%) and other taluks is 79 (20.73%).
Right now in Mangaluru, there are 8,988 cases of coronavirus infection. Out of this 218 people have died. The rate of death is 2.42%. In the district of Bantwal 1,772 coronavirus cases are detected, out of which 46 people have died. The rate of death is 2.59%. In Beltangady the number of cases are 856, out of which 11 people have died with a percentage death of 1.28%. Puttur has reported 358 coronavirus cases, out of which 23 people have died. The death percentage is 6.42%. In Sullia total number of cases reported are 684 with four people dying, which makes the death percentage as 9.62%. In other taluks the number of coronavirus infections is 821 out of which 79 people have died. The death percentage is 9.62%.
Nearly 277 (73%) are men among the coronavirus cases that are reported in the district. The rest 104 (27%) are women.
Among the dead, four are in the age group of 0 to 20 years, while 30 are of 21 to 40 years, 132 are of 41 to 60 years, 188 are of 60 to 80 years and 27 are above the age of 80 years. So the most number of deaths have reported in the age group of 60 to 80 years.
In Mangaluru, 57.21% of the total deaths are reported. This makes the death percentage of 2.82%. More than 72% of these are men. 49.3% are in the age group of 60 to 80 years. 95.3% have died of other co-morbid related health conditions.
