Mangalore: Moily’s Presence, Clarinet Recital, Laughter Festival at University College

Mangalore, Mar 30: After a gap of several years, the annual day of the Old Students Association of the University College, Hampankatta here, will be held on April 3, 2010. Union minister, Veerappa Moily’s presence, clarinet recital, and Laughter Festival will be the high points of the event.

A meeting is being held at 4.30 pm on April 3 in the college premises, under the presidentship of union law and justice minister, M Veerappa Moily. President of the Association, D K Chowta, informed at a press meet held on Monday March 29 here, that Mangalore University vice chancellor, Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy, immediate past vice chancellor, Prof K M Kaveriappa, and vice president of the Association, Dr P Dayanand Pai, will participate in the meeting.

After the meeting, Vidwan Narasimhalu Vadavati, legendary clarinetist, will present  a clarinet recital. This will be followed by a musical Laughter Festival, to be presented by a group of celebrated humourists from the state, Richard Louis, Gundu Rao Bhajantri, Mysore Anand and Narasimha Murthy. The members of the general public can also participate by presenting passes that are issued free of cost, informed Chowta.

Entrepreneur, Dr Dayanand Pai, who has already donated the first phase extension building of the college costing Rs 1.40 crore, has announced that he will also construct the second phase of the extension, free of cost. Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd has come forward to donate Rs 50 lac towards the construction of auditorium. MLAs, N Yogish Bhat and U T Khader, have promised to sanction Rs 10 lac and Rs 5 lac respectively from out of their local area development funds. Dayanand Pai has agreed to adopt the college, he explained.

Joint secretaries of the Association, Nitte Shashidhar Shetty, Namita D Rao, member, S N Narayan Gowda, college principal, Dr Lakshminarayan Bhat H R and others were present at the press conference.
