Bengaluru: Hilma Roach elected president of Kanara Catholic Association

Media Release

Bengaluru, Sep 6: KCA (Kanara Catholic Association), held its annual general body meeting (AGM) on Sunday, in the face of the Covid pandemic, with Marjorie Texeira passing the baton as president to Hilma Roach. KCA, which was founded in 1955 and has over 1,800 members ensured that it stuck to its democratic traditions by holding an AGM in these difficult times when many organisations have deferred their meetings or just not met at all. The AGM was held through a combination of web and physical meetings to elect a new president, office bearers and committee for 2020-2022.

The committee members and selected guests met in Konkan Samudhai Bhavan (while adhering to social distancing) and the members through a web meeting moderated by Dr Joseph Rasquinha. The outgoing president, Marjorie Texeira spoke about how well KCA members have responded to the various events and functions held just before the advent of Covid which covered a range of activities from the functions at the catholic club, visits to children’s home, and the little sisters of the Poor fete, where KCA had a stall. The incoming president, Hilma Roach thanked everyone for their support and mentioned how important it was for everyone to come together in these difficult times and help the community and how KCA would make it its mission to be a beacon in that direction.

The web meeting for which over 100 registered, was organised by KE (Kanara Entrepreneurs), whose president Charles Gomes gave a brief speech of how KCA and KE have interacted over the years with so many members being a part of both organisations to the benefit of both. KE director of membership Pramod D’Souza also made a few points of how further collaboration was important in this difficult time and how each could use their own strengths to help each other.

In typical web-generated meetings, the entire AGM was crisp, focussed and achieved all its aims and objectives admirably.  Though the actual physical meeting of members was missed with its usual camaraderie and cheer, the AGM achieved the next best thing - keeping the KCA flag flying high to the benefit of all.
