Udupi, Sep 7: It has come to light on the morning of Monday, September 7 that unknown miscreants have killed monkeys and stuffed their dead bodies in gunny bags and have thrown the same on the reserve forest at Kandikallu of Someshwara Madamakki of Nadpalu village of Hebri taluk in the district.

The culprits have heinously killed monkeys including baby monkeys and stuffed them in two gunny bags. Passersby who saw the bags informed the matter to the forest officers of Hebri.

It is suspected that someone, owning farmland, has tried to keep the menace of monkeys away by killing them. Hebri forest officials have visited the spot and taking further action.

Karkala range forest officer (RFO) Dinesh said, "This is not done by locals. These dead bodies are two or three days old. It has come to our notice that eight monkeys have died. More monkeys are stuffed in gunny bags. Once the doctors arrive the inspection and investigation will continue further. The dead bodies of monkeys will be sent to post mortem for more checking on the actual fact."
