Bengaluru: Meteorological department predicts heavy rainfall for Malnad, coastal districts

Bengaluru, Sep 7: Director in the department of meteorology C S Patil has indicated that there is a chance of several parts of Karnataka getting heavy rainfall till September 10. Coastal districts are expected to get heavy rainfall and yellow alert has been sounded.

Northern interior Karnataka also may get widespread rainfall. Districts like Belagavi, Dharwad and Gadag too are expected to get heavy rainfall today as per the department's prediction. Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu districts too are likely to get heavy rain and therefore an orange alert has been issued on September 7 and 8.

The quantum of rainfall in Bengaluru too will go up. Malnad and coastal Karnataka may get rain with thunder for four days. An orange alert has also been issued for Chikkamgaluru, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Tumakuru, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Mandya, Bengaluru city and rural districts.

Almatti reservoir is full and all its gates have been opened. Tunga reservoir too is full. The water level in other dams also has gone up. The department said that atmosphere that is favourable for rain has been created over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian sea.

    Our IMD had predicted heavy rains on 1/2/3 of September... But, we had strong sunlight... Looking forward the rains... Hope, as per this prediction, we get rain...
