Udupi, Sep 9: Deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha has instructed the officials of NHAI to complete the pending works on national highways 66 and 169 as soon as possible and allow the same to be used by public.

Jagadeesha was speaking at the progress review meeting of the national highways pending work in the district which took place at his office on Wednesday, September 9.

Questioning the NHAI officials the DC said, "Public is repeatedly bringing to my notice about the delay in the works related to Kundapur flyover underpass works near Moorkai and Padubidri bridge works. I have to answer their concern. Provide me information on when these works will be completed. Now rains have also reduced and labourers who had gone to their native place due to Covid pandemic have returned back to the district. So what is the hurdle in completing the work?"

Replying to the query of DC, project director of NHAI said, "The Kundapur flyover work will be completed by November end. Moorkai underpass and Padubidri bridge work will be completed by the end of December."

The DC also instructed the NHAI officials to do joint spot inspection with Kundapur sub divisional officials with respect to the water logging at Moorkai underpass. He also instructed the officials to install sign boards at 32 black spots that are identified on NH 66. Jagadeesha drew the attention of the officials towards the non-functioning of street lights on national highway and to close the potholes suitably.

Jagadeesha also informed NHAI officials about the dangerous potholes at Parkala near national highway 169 A and asked them to close them soon. He also asked the officials to provide him update on Indrali railway bridge work.

Replying to the query on Indrali railway bridge work, NHAI officials said, "Design of Indrali railway bridge was initially sent to IIT Madras. After it was approved by them, the same is sent to Konkan railway office at Mumbai. Once we get the go ahead, work of composite steel bridge will begin. All works related to national highway 169 A will be completed by April 2021."

CEO of zilla panchayat Preeti Gehlot, additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, subdivisional officer Raju, tahsildars of taluks under national highway limits and officials of NHAI were present.
