Moodbidri, Sep 11: In the present context, there is dearth for industry-ready technicians in the manufacturing industry. Even though students are trained in their colleges on theoretical aspects, there is adequate scope to provide them hands-on-experience exposure. In this backdrop, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Moodbidri to develop the skills of students from mid-to-long-term perspective.
Alva’s Education Foundation (AEF) is also pleased to announce its association with TCS iON, a strategic unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization to equip students of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology & Alva’s College with new-age, industry-aligned skills and industry trending internship opportunities through the TCS iON Industry Honour Certification (TCS iON IHC) and TCS iON Remote Internships. This association is going to be first-of-its- kind among all the engineering colleges in Karnataka.
Objectives of MoU with Toyota Kirloskar Motor
Toyota Learning and Development India (TLDI), the training arm of Toyota Kirloskar Motor has initiated this tie-up with Alva’s college. Objective is to share Toyota’s best practices to the students, bridge industry-academia gap and equip students with employable skills.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has developed models in terms of developing youth through Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), Gurukul Skill Development Center and National Manpower Excellence Center (NMEC). Based on these what-works models, we aim to develop youth of the country in line with ‘Skill India’ Mission. Our uniqueness is to develop students’ body and mind apart from developing their fundamental skills”, says G Shankara, associate vice president, Human Resources and Services Group.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is the largest manufacturing Industry in the entire Karnataka state. It is a huge advantage for the students of Mechanical Engineering. We are sure that this training brings in lot of confidence among the students. Students would be happy to have hands-on training in the factory and also learn Japanese culture alongside.”
This long-term training programs will augment practical knowledge and exposure to our students, thus making them industry-ready technicians with desired skill sets and competencies. For the BE students, training programs will commence in the second year and will conclude in the final year. Meanwhile, MBA and MSW students will be trained from the first semester till the end of the course. This course comprises 90 per cent practical exposure to Toyota’s skill practices and 10 per cent emphasis on the theoretical aspects. A total of 180 hours of syllabus is planned under this program, of which, 110 hours will be imparted at TKM premises and 70 hours will be provided in the college campus”.
Target Audience
The programs will focus on developing the faculty and students from Engineering, Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and Master’s in Social Work (MSW). Students will be developed based on semester-wise skill enhancement plan.
Training Faculty
Trainers are certified by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Japan and Asia-Pacific Global Production Center (AP-GPC), Thailand. A pool of more than 300-plus trainers with shop floor experience and global exposure will impart training to the students. Trainers have imparted training to participants from across India including overseas companies.
Topics of Training
For Engineering students, they will be trained in topics like lean manufacturing principles, automobile technology, industrial safety, environment management system, total quality management, supply chain management, automobile welding, car painting, mechatronics, automation and robotics, PLC programming, pneumatics, hydraulics, xEV Technology etc.
For MBA and MSW students, sessions on principles of management, strategic human resources management, organizational behavior, recruitment and selection, HR analytics, compensation and benchmarking, employee engagement, reward and recognition etc. will be imparted.
These skill enhancement courses focus on developing the youth with employable skills. A nominal cost (not-for-profit) will be charged to bear the administrative expenses.
TCSiON-Alva’s Education Foundation MoU
The courses will enable students of Alvas Engineering to opt for industry-trending domains such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cloud computing, data mining, analytics, IoT, and cybersecurity.
Through the TCS iON IHC programme, students will have the opportunity to enroll for industry-relevant courses designed and delivered in collaboration with industry experts and academia, as part of their academic program.
The objective is to make Alva’s students align their skills with industry applications and become future-ready. The programme reimagines classroom pedagogy through advanced cloud platforms, best-in-class multimodal content, lectures by industry specialists, expert communities, preparatory analytics, and assessments.
TCS iON Remote Internships will help connect Alva’s students directly with corporates and industry mentors and provide a structured learning environment to execute the internship projects remotely. This unique offering will enable students to pursue internship opportunities around the year, during the pandemic and beyond while providing companies with a structured digital framework that is compliant with AICTE guidelines.
