Kasargod: BJP activist accused in murder of CPM worker P Murali sentenced to life in prison

Kasargod, Sep 11: District additional sessions court (2) has sentenced on Friday, BJP activist and Anantpur resident Sharathraj for the murder of CPM activist, Kumble Shantipalla resident P Murali (35) to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2 lac. The court further maintained that a failure to pay the fine would attract another year of imprisonment.

The court has ordered to hand over the amount of fine to the family of the deceased CPM activist Murali.

There were seven suspects in the murder. The court acquitted the remaining six suspects as their involvement in the murder was not established. The acquitted suspects were Dinesh, Varadaraj, Mithun Kumar, Nithin Raj, Mahesh and Ajith Kumar.

Back on October 27, 2014, a gang had waylaid an auto in which Murali was travelling. The men hacked the CPM activist to death with deadly weapons near Seetangoli area. Public prosecutor Abdul Sattar had argued in favour of the prosecution.
