Mangaluru: Normal life disrupted as heavy rains lash DK, several areas inundated

Mangaluru, Sep 20: Several areas across Dakshina Kannada were inundated in the torrential rains that lashed the district on the night of Saturday September 19 and Sunday September 20 morning.

Red alert has been declared in the district for two days on September 20 and 21.

Nandini and Shambhavi rivers were swollen and low-lying areas near Kinnigoli were submerged.

Kilenjoor, Panja, Balkunje, Attur and other areas near Kinnigoli were inundated.

The rains are continuing to lash border areas in the district. Hundreds of acres of agricultural land have submerged under water. Paddy fields have suffered extensive damage.

NDRF forces have been deployed to evacuate affected families.

Several houses along Mulky-Balkunje route have been submerged.

In Adyapady near Bajpe, access road was cut off following a landslip. Traffic movement has been suspended in this route as a precautionary measure.

Sources said that two persons sustained injuries after a house collapsed at Saripalla. They have been admitted to hospital.

There is waterlogging in areas such as Jeppnimogaru, Kudroli and others. A tree was uprooted at Falnir, causing traffic disruption.
