Bengaluru, Sep 20: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday morning called and spoke to the deputy commissioner of Udupi district G Jagadeesha following reports of heavy rains in different parts of the district and directed that all steps should be taken to shift people from low lying areas.
Different parts of the Udupi district have been inundated on account of the heavy downpour since last night. Heavy rains and inundation of low lying areas have occurred in other parts of the coastal region too.
The chief minister has promised to provide all assistance to the Udupi district authorities from the state government.
Meanwhile, Udupi-Chikkamagalur BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje has said that special NDRF teams have been rushed to Udupi from Mysuru to rescue people. Precautionary measures are being taken to prevent loss of lives due to landslides in Chikkamagaluru district, she said.
The chief minister also contacted the administrator of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Gaurav Gupta to prevent loss of lives in Bengaluru city, especially in low lying areas on account of the heavy downpour since last night. Yediyurappa directed the BBMP administrator to ensure that all officials in BBMP must be available 24x7 to take precautionary measures and also undertake rescue or relief works.
Later, the chief minister took part in the Seva Saptah function organized to mark the 70th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bengaluru.
