Ranchi, Sep 26 (IANS): Villagers in Jharkhand put a garland of slippers and shoes on a married woman who eloped with her lover but later they were caught in a compromising position in Sahebganj district of the state.

The incident took place in Shiva Pahad village of Sahebganj district. The woman was in love with a youth but she was married to another man. She was living with her relatives at Shiva Pahad village.

The two lovers continued their affair even after her marriage. On Friday night the youth reached the woman's home and the two ran away together. They were later spotted by the villagers in a compromising position.

The villagers put garlands of shoes and slippers on both the youth and the woman. Both were in a half naked state and they were paraded in the village in the same condition. The youth was also slapped with a Rs 5 lakh fine for indecent behaviour.

When the police reached the village and tried to rescue the duo they had to face stiff resistance from the villagers. Police have lodged a complaint against the villagers.
