Bantwal: Illegal Stock of Explosives worth Crores Seized near Vittal – Six Held

Bantwal, Apr 16: In a surprise raid into a house situated near a stone quarry at Arthadka of Veerakamba village near Vittal on Friday April 16, team led by circle inspector Nanjunde Gowda arrested six including quarry owner and seized vehicles, illegal storage of explosives including detonators and equipment used for mining worth over crore rupees. 

The arrested are identified as owner Tousif, son of PB Ahmed alias Ammuchcha of Kasargod, manager Sahadev, supervisor Prakash, labourers Ahmed, Murthy and Santhosh. Police have gathered information that Ajith Kamth from Karkala and R S Kini of Honnavar too are partners in crime with Tousif. The duo are said to be supplying jelly stones to railway department.

The assets seized comprised explosives that include 18 bags of ammonium nitrate, 1,000 electronic detonators, 650 gelatin sticks and dynamo used for explosion recovered from the house. Further, three Hitachi machines, two jeeps, four tractors, eight tippers, one loader and crusher machine were also seized by the police.       

More than 25 workers were working in the quarry that had a permit to undertake mining on 2.80 acres of land. However, it has come to light on investigation that mining was being undertaken on the illegally acquired land apart from the permissible area. A thorough investigation will be held in this regard through the revenue department, informed Gowda.

Constables Sanjeeva Purusha, Vijay Kumar, Girish, Jayakumar, Lokesh, Taranath, Vadiraj, Prashanth and jeep driver Vijeshwaran were part of the operation. Deputy superintendent of police Shashidhar and Harishchandra inspected the spot and are guiding the investigation. Vittal police station sub-inspector Savitra Teja has registered a complaint.

    Commendable job from poilce department, but what about Reddy brothers, when are they will be come under scanner, biggest minings has taken place over the years in our state, lot of wealth has been looted by a handful people, who will bell the cats???

    If there is only Muslims it should be suspect about terrorism but if involve others there is even no doubt,i am not bringing religion in crime, criminals should be punish but it shows how snaga parivaar accusing only Muslims.now no problem to bjp or rss, bd ,sena, etc..year a back one guy caught by special police for keeping illegal explosive as every one knows its using for mining purpose but its suspect him for connection with terrorists because he was muslim.Jai hind

    As I go through these events I recall my childhood days when there was not a single case like the one detected by The Law Enforcement Department. Dakshina Kannada from a peaceful district is turning out to be a difficult area to dwell in. Having said this I compliment the two Deputy Superintendents of Police Harishchandra and Shashidhar Rao for their alertness in detecting the situation and taking immediate corrective steps. I have known these fine officers for over two decades as men of grit and standing for the cause of the people. They have given excellent accounts of themselves in various fields. Of course they have two role models in IGP Gopal Hasur and and S.P. Dr. A.S. Rao.

    I congratulate the D.S.P.'s and Constables Sanjeeva Purusha, Vijay Kumar, Girish, Jayakumar, Lokesh, Taranath, Vadiraj, Prashanth and jeep driver Vijeshwaran who were part of the operation.

    It is happening everywhere, who cares? With more illegal activities, there are more Hafthas to the corrupt policemen. It’s a vicious circle. If anybody wants to put ‘Thote’ means these types of explosives to catch fish in the river, pond etc. they are openly available in the black market.

    I don't see anything 100% legal in our country. Even the biggest tycoons are turning every stone to escape income tax. So don't make big hue out of this. This type of business is quite common in India.

    The purpose of the storage of explosive was for quarry/mining for supplying jelly stones to railway department.

    It remains to be seen whether these stocks are more than what required to the project or excess.Another thing is how it was trnsported from point of origin to site is question mark with out permit? A in dept intrrogation may tell the real purpose of the storage.Under the prevailing situation with regards to Maos and terrorism this big catch will make puzzle for district admin.

    When everything is controlled stringently, these illegal mines & illegal explosives are used. So govt., should make arrangements & control these activities in a transparent way, then only these things could be contained. Otherwise criminals would tap these lucrative markets, which is better?is to be left to the govt., to take.
