Bangalore, Apr 17:
The State Government may have to shell out Rs 20 crore for purchasing the land to construct the proposed memorial for late Vishnuvardhan at Abhiman Studios on the outskirts of Bangalore.

The present market value of land in Bangalore north taluk, where the land is located, is Rs 2,500 per sq ft. The Government wants to construct the memorial on a two-acre plot in the studios, where the samadhi of Vishnuvardhan is located.

According to official sources, the owner of the studios, son of late cine actor Balakrishna, wants the Government to pay the market value for the land. However, the present guidance value is Rs 600 per sq ft there, sources said.

Yeddyurappa has set aside Rs 10 crore in 2010-11 budget for the construction of the memorial.  The Government is in a dilemma whether to purchase the plot at the high cost or give alternate land to the owner, sources said.

After chairing the first meeting of the Vishnuvardhan Memorial Construction Committee at his home office Krishna, Yeddyurappa told reporters that he has directed officials to hold talks with the owner of Abhiman Studios over purchase of land.  Vishnuvardhan’s wife Bharati Vishnuvardhan and KFCC President Jayamala were also present at the meeting.

The Chief Minister also said the State Government would initiate the process of land acquisition soon. Bharati Vishnuvardhan said the Chief Minister promised to purchase the land and start the work on memorial soon.

Its difficult to comment on this project, since we do not know the design. But it would be useful to all, if it could be constructed as a park or some such thing, which would both help the public to visit as well as perpetuate the memory of the actor.

MR yeddy is gone mad i suppose . Why the hell he is approving 20 CRORES for memorial. Vishnu was just doing his job for his sake not for the public , what the hell this yeddy is upto . Just show off nothing else . If he is so much interested then let him sponsor form his pocket.

Mr Vishnuvardan is a great actor and but what his conctribution to the betterment of karnataka. What sacrifice he did to deserve this honor? Its rightly pointed out by some readers here that same money can be spent on buliding orphange or home for destitutes and name it after the dead actor will be an ideal move and I hope the late actor too would be happy for this proposal. Whats the contribution of late actor's family towards this project. The BJP govt is after personality worship. For me finding a solution to the water and electricity problems is million times beter than building a memorial for Vishnu. Unfortunately Yeddi is spending tax payers public funds and not his personal wealth or wealth of BJP.

Mr. Raj Mangalore, read news properly then comment, this is not question of name mentioning to memorial or building, this is question of whether is this necessary to pay this much hard tax payers money to like this memorials or concrete buildings instead of spending development programs. You better to know Power situation and road condition, that is priority matter. This only we can expect if unintelligent come to power.

    I'm a fan of Vishnu..
    But 20 crore for memorial.....!!!!
if Yeddi divide these 20 crore by 2-4 lacs per house he can give shelter for more than 500-700 families in karnataka itself.... specially for those who suffered from natural disasters last time karnataka.
for the vishnu memorial need support from producers / distributors who benefited from Vishnu films.

Vishnuvardhan was a great actor. I think it is better to build a free school in his name as a memorial. It will be useful to the public, at the same time will serve as a memorial to the great man and actor.

Twenty Crores lots of money. Nagesh Mamu this time I am against your comments. This is completely waste of money. Better build 2 - 3 schools , or thousand home for the Flood Victims in the name of Vishuvardhan.

State govt. might be crazy to spend 20 CRORES on memorial. Dr. vishuvardhan was a great personality. at present if he was alive he wouldnt have let the govt to spend such a huge amount to build a memorial. rather he would build a ashram for the orphan children.

India is a developing country. so the govt should utilise the money in development, education, n health. people in india die due to starvation, illness etc. try solving these problem atlest in state level so that dr.vishnuvardhan soul will rest in peace.
