Bangalore: Sonia’s Warning for Deshpande – Motamma Against Two Posts

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Apr 17: It is learnt that national president of the Congress and UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, has sounded a final warning to Karnataka Pradesh Congress president, R V Deshpande to perform, when the latter met her on Friday April 16. In the meanwhile, leader of the opposition in the state assembly, Siddaramaiah, too met her to give his version of the reasons for the successive defeats of the party in the elections held in the state.

Sonia met the two leaders separately in New Delhi to know the reasons for the party’s debacle. It is learnt, Deshpande has assured her that the party will do well in the gram panchayat elections slated for next month. Deshpande, it is gathered, expressed the view that the party failed to put up a united fight, which worked against it in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagarapalike (BBMP) election. Sources added that Sonia warned Deshpande that the high command will think of replacing him, if the party does not fare well in the gram panchayat elections. Deshpande however, told the reporters that he had apprised the national president of the party about the preparations made by the party to face the gram panchayat elections and that no other points came up for discussions.

Speaking to the media men in the city, leader of the opposition in the legislative council, Motamma, stated that the creation of two posts of the president and working president, has created two power centres in the state and that egos of the two personalities have been coming in the way of the smooth functioning of the party. She said all other state leaders in the party have come together. “The creation of two posts does not conform to the Congress culture. The party high command has been given full details of the problems created out of this,” she stated.

At the same time, she opined that the party workers are confused about the two posts, although the two leaders have been maintaining a healthy relationship, and demanded for reverting to the earlier system of having a single president for the party at the state level.

Anyway you count Congress has lost the past glory during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi & Jawaharlal Nehru. Now it is only patch up work to sustain the party & balancing act to retain the power, whether in Central or States. Many regional party over time which have sprung up, & equally head on party BJP is clearly threat to Cong.

There is no match of the efforts of Rahul-Sonia-Priyanka to the ones present earlier..& clearly now the regional parties are king makers in the centre. In State its worse for Cong. with many aspirants for leadership. Groupism-party infighting, soft stand on terrorism, extreme minority appeasement, to much of regional parties appeasement, extreme stand on the majority religon leaders & their organisation & their sentiments & culture, are some factors responsible for the present state of Cong.

True state of Congress can been seen over the year in the form of election results say BBMP, etc. Congress has too many leaders, & definetly who is the leader to them in Karnataka ? a big question. Again Mitwa, Mysore, speaks more illogical. What about issues as Bofors, Swiss Bank Deposits & Sikh Riots ? Please look inside before questioning others of their deeds.
Whether in power or out, in Karnataka, the infighting in cong. is known to all & has been greatly responsible for loosing elections after elections.

Why Nagesh Nayak is getting so frustrated? BJP can be accepted by majority of people if they can give up their hidden communal agenda and work for people. People of Karnataka are aware of the level of corruption in Yedyurappa's government. Instead of commenting on congress(who is in opposition presently) why can't you tell your BJP to mend ways.

Narendra Modi does not deserve to be discussed. I don't find any difference between him and a terrorist.

Its high time for Congress to introspect its achievements, strategies and reasons for the debacle in Assmebly and BBMP elections. There is no good leadership in Karnatka Congress. In fighting and ego clashes have ruined the party. Revival of the party at its grass root level can only bring about desired changes. The so called state leaders have lost touch with grass root workers. Groupism is killing the spirit of Congress. There is no effective opposition in karnataka. Karnataka BJP president is acting like a goon. He doesnt respect the feelings of the people, nor he respect the judiciary and law and order. Yesterday in Vijayasankalpa rally, he is openly calling for the hands of the cow slaughteres to be chopped off. Where is the law and order situtation. A ruling party is making such irresponsible statement. I think he must have forgotten that who ever comes to cut the hands off may have to return without both hands and legs. Are we living in democracy? Why BJP is instigating the communual tensions and is it not their duty to maintain law and order in the state they rule?

Congress must understand, its party idialogy that attracts voters. Matured voters are watching carefully, their performance and workers. State Congress is a divided house, to read its direction it is difficult even to a matured and politically informed voter. Lower level voter turnout certiainly a good indicator to that. I believe guys like Deshpandhe, DKS are primarily responsible to that mess. Until state congress reinvents itself from grass root, it will be difficult for it anytime soon, to overcome challenge from BJP. BJP has edge in terms of a) money, b) hindutva card - that they play it very well to woo voters - without giving them back anything c) a strong underground movement that builds surface voters, binding them with nationalistic belief. d) The use of government mechanary to prevail upon where necessary to crush people who highlight truth.

Definitely the Ego Clash and internal tugg of war of the Congress Leaders is the root cause of the debacle in the recent election. Sincerely speaking there is not a single reason to hope for the better performance in the forthcoming grama Panchayet elections. Congress Leaders in the state have already lost the grounds and their own credibility. When they couldn't face "Operation kamala" in a befitting manner, then how can they afford to face elections! It will not be wrong if you say that the present State Leadership of the Congress Party is Good for Nothing!!
