Doha, Apr 18: Mangalore Cultural Association organized the Vocal Touch – A voice workshop on demand for a second time for Mangalorean Konkani speaking people residing in Qatar. This was considered to be a preparation for the Gulf Voice of Mangalore – a coming up Mega Event of the Year. It proved extremely advantageous for all singers present in the Meeting Hall of Hotel Grand Regency.

This workshop was presented by the dynamic Music Educator, Vocal Coach and Choral Director Joseph (Jossy) Moras (LTCL). His ability in this field of music is par excellence and laudable, which was appreciated by all present in the hall. Any program organized by the Mangalore Cultural Association, Qatar always begins with the MCA Anthem specially composed by “Konkan Kogull” Wilfy Rebimbus for the Association. This time also the program began with the Anthem, remembering him and praying for his departed Soul.  This was followed by Welcome speech by the President Harry Lobo. Arthur Pais introduced the presenter Jossy Moras to all participants. There were a lot of new faces this time.

Jossy Moras shared all the techniques and basic necessities which every singer should preserve. He educated the attendees on how to give their best to the audience while they perform on stage.  He taught certain exercises to enhance the quality of the voice. Warming up before singing is one of the essential requirements which a singer is ignorant about. Many other facts which the participants were unaware were taught as well as demonstrated. Each singer was individually assessed and judged. Every individual got a chance to perform and also understand how they could do better knowing their shortcomings and weakness in their presentation. This could surely help them to improve in future. The knowledge exhibited by Jossy was praiseworthy.  Overall it was a golden experience for the lucky ones present in the hall.

The main intention behind this workshop is to bring awareness in a singer the basic knowledge of singing, to bring out their real hidden talent, to help them gain more confidence, to learn techniques about presenting yourself on stage for a professional outcome. This opportunity proved to be a platform to give their best in the forthcoming Gulf Voice of Mangalore.

Felix Lobo, the advisory committee member of the association requested all the participants to make good use of this opportunity, apply all the techniques learnt in their singing and perform well in the coming up GVOM. Certificate of Participation was distributed to all participants by Wilfred Fernandes and Felix Lobo.

Dorothy Quadros thanked everyone who helped to make this workshop a great success. Mr. Arthur Pais was the master of the ceremony.

Mangalore Cultural Association had made it a point to help the local talents not only to give their best at the last GVOM but also most of the Semifinalist got a chance to perform at their annual program at the Doha Cinema. MCA has always introduced creative and new ventures for the benefit of Mangalorean Konkans in Qatar. The association intends that Mangalorean should use these opportunities and take advantage of it.

The Auditions of the Gulf Voice of Mangalore in Doha will be on the 11th of June 2010 at the Indian Cultural Center. Application forms will be online soon.

Great Job MCA. All I heard from the participants is that the session was something very special. Most of us have access to vocal music only by attending concerts. This kind of workshops are very rare and experts like Jossie Moras are not heard at all in our community. Jossie you are doing a wonderful job by sharing your knowledge with the budding singers. A noble profession with a noble cause. God bless you Jossie
    and congratulations to MCA.
