Mangalore, Apr 18: The Mukka parish, near Surathkal, here has shown a rare kind of gesture by felicitating local corporator Rajani Dugganna who was elected as a mayor of the city last month.

On behalf of all the parishioners, Fr Lawrence Martis, parish priest of Holy Spirit parish, Mukka felicitated Dugganna on Saturday April 17.

Usually, there is a trend among the communities to felicitate the achievers from their own community but the parishioners of Mukka have set up a new trend, ‘Hail the person based on humanity, regardless of his/her community’.

Prior to the stage programme, Leo Rodrigues, NRI entrepreneur from Abu Dhabi and donor inaugurated the renovated stage.

Leo Rodrigues and Laveena couple, Francis Fernandes Cascia, the play-wright of Mataro Chorbela, Konkani social play and actor, were also felicitated by Mukka parish council on the occasion.

Parish council vice president Triza Monteiro welcomed the gathering. Anita and Sunita compered the programme. Secretary Alphonse Pereira proposed the vote of thanks.

Later, the forty ninth show of Mataro Chorbela, Konkani social play was staged at the parish ground.

This is an excellent trend. Whoever deserve to be felicitated should be felicitated irrespective of the fact whether that person belongs to your community or not. Congratulations and all the best to Mukka parish people.

I am very much honoured to see Rev Fr. L.Martis in felicitating local corporator Rajani Dugganna who was elected as a mayor of mangalore city last month along with other well known dignitaries like M/s. Leo & Francis. Fr. Martis is my immediate neighbour and always found him very very simple and working for the needy without social descrimination. I have seen him in Moodubidri Parish and attended a mass in which he had given a sermon I never ever forget. I can only say wherever he goes to any parishes - the parisheners are lucky to have him with them with a lot of difference and I am I always proud of him. God Bless you Fr. from: President, Core Commitee & members - Canara Catholics Fujairah (UAE)
