Mangalore: Two Held for Plotting Lawyers’ Murder to Avenge Kashimji’s Killing

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 6: A team of the district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB), headed by inspector, H N Venkatesh Prasanna, nabbed Mohammed Iqbal (30), and Altaf (22), for plotting to kill two Hindu lawyers, as a revenge for the killing of lawyer, Naushad Kashimji, last year. The arrests were made on Wednesday May 5.

The two have been accused of hatching a conspiracy to murder lawyers, Jagadish Shenava from the city, who is associated with the Sangh Parivar, and Shantiprasad Hegde from Moodbidri. Some arms were recovered from the possession of the arrested men.

Mohammed Iqbal is a resident of Moodushedde, Vamanjoor in the city. He runs a business, having his shop in the Central Market here. Altaf is a resident of Marnamikatte here. Both are backed by criminal records. While Iqbal faces the charge of killing Chetan at Jeppu Kudupady, Altaf has been named in the disturbances in the city following the murder of lawyer Kashimji.

The policemen say that the two accused, along with Nauman, Ashfaq, Farooq, Sauhan, Naushad, Rehman, Abdulla and Ali, had drawn up a plan to kill the above two lawyers. The DCIB team, after gathering concrete information, laid in wait to arrest the members of this gang. They could lay their hands only on Iqbal and Altaf, both of whom were handed over to Bunder police station. It is said that the two were proceeding towards the office of Jagadish Shenava located in Kodialbail, when they were picked up.  Bunder police inspector, Vinay Gaonkar, said that the accused would be produced in the court, and that the policemen will be seeking their custody for further interrogation.

Shantiprasad Hegde is a renowned lawyer, and is the brother of Padmaprasad Hegde, a member of the State Bar Council.

If social justice is not adminstered, if all the citizens are not treated as equal, if law enforing and investigating agenices are biased and are one sided, there is no doubt that in the future such consppiracy shall behatched and the unjust people may face unnatural deaths in the hands of so called victimised and victims of bias. Its surely a wake up call for people who just follow only one ideology of hate and fundamentalism. It is wake up call for lawyers who only think about money and forget the oath they have taken. Lawyers are seen fighting for falsehood and protecting criminals.

I just wonder How quick is our law enforcement authority to catch a would be culprit when it involves a ruling BJP/Sangh parivar associated person. It shows the police can do the JOB if they are sincere and unbiased and definitely there will be peace all around And so drowsy and careless when the minority/muslim lawyer was killed.Infact it is well known in Naushad case that police themselves were involved.

Privately Naushad has said if at all he is Murdered it will be by higher ranking Police officers only.In our country the real facts comes out when a proper trust worthy body conducts the investigations as the facts of fake encounters are coming out now a days

The Police has proved to be useless in solving murder of Lawyer Naushad Kashimji. And now they cooked a new story of hatching a conspiracy to murder shenava and Hegde. The same shenava is involved helping the anti social elements who caused chaos in Mangalore under the banner of Baja rang Dal and Rama Sene. The people who are in the picture look like innocent and must have beaten to death to sign the death notes. Now is it a big question mark for the newly appointed DIG in Mangalore or is it a brave act under his leadership?

Dear Kumar-Dubai.Let me clarify my postion that - my comment is not for the sake of commenting.Beeing a Muslim and also living in Mangalore as a Muslim-is like always living in Danger. You people will never understand our sufferings because you belong to majority community and living in safe heaven, peace full city-called Dubai.
I know that more than 150 innocent muslim youths are lagging behind jails in DK, for no fault of their's.Coming to Prasad,it is just because of rivalary between BJP and Srirama sena that has kept him behind bars. All these years he was terrorisng innocent citizens and no action has taken place. You can find hundreds of Prasads roaming and terrorising innocent Muslims.
I do feel that you understand my feeling.

FOR THE INFORMATION OF THOSE WHO TALK ABOUT EXPLOITATION OF MINORITIES AT EVERY GIVEN OPPORTUNITY - A QUICK LOOK WHAT THE GOVT DOES & THIS HOLDS TRUE IRRESPECTIVE OF THE PARTY THAT RULES
    ..
Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, May 6: “The earlier government used to hoodwink the minorities by claiming that they have real concern for them. In fact, the present BJP government is the only one so far to have shown genuine interest in minority welfare,” said chairman of the State Minorities Development Corporation, N B Abubakker.

Addressing a press conference held here on Wednesday May 5, he said that the earlier state governments used to earmark only Rs 20 to 35 crores per year for minority welfare, whereas Yeddyurappa, in his maiden budget as the deputy Chief Minister, had set aside Rs 98 crore, and followed it up by increasing the sum to Rs 145 crore, 167 crore, 172 crore and 251 crore in the successive years.

“Till the year 2006, during the previous four years, the governments had provided a total sum of Rs 47.95 crore under this head. During the last four years, Yeddyurappa has provided a total of Rs 196.95 crore for minority welfare,” he stated, to substantiate his claim.

Well done Mangalore Police. Instead of arresting the murderers of Naushad Kashimji you have arrested Mohammed Iqbal , and Altaf , for plotting to kill two Hindu lawyers. It seems they are not much concerned about the murder of Naushad or else Daal me kaala hai.

To think that criminals have a religion is a big mistake. These are just criminals and there is no need to associate them with the religion. There are plenty of these thugs in all religions in India.
Stop accusing the police and one another without any rationale.

M Bhat, Mumbai, Now days your people using tact to blame Muslims in all the way, If anybody commit crime or engaged in unlawful activities, you immediately come to conclude and stick Muslim label, When Maduri Gupta incident, your people said she had close with a Muslim family or she kept fasting when Ramazan period or converted into Islam so she did like that. Fact is crook mind is may not ready to accept their people’s involvement in anti-national activities. Thank god nobody broadcasted Halappa and Nithyanada swamy’s orgin is Muslim.

& SALEEM ALIABBA, MANAGALORE - I donot understand why the arrest of criminals by police is looked down upon as communal act? is it just they belong to your community ? The police have pre-empted these criminals from creating mayhem in Mangalore. I congratulate the police for excellent foresight and wonderful job. Its foolish of you people who claim peace loving but support criminals and robbers due to religious affilications. Is it "Brathru Prema? (brotherly love)? If tomorrow a terrorist is arrested you both would again raise and hue and cry?

I fully endorse what Saleem is saying. VHP goons of criminal records have full protection of police and politicians. That's why they can roam freely, even if arrested released in no time. Where as think of those who are arrested from minority communities with suspicion and how harshly they are treated. What type of raj we are in!

Gie rest to your rusted brain. If police do good work you criticise them for being agile and effcient just becuase criminals belong to your community and if police remain ineffective again you blame them for inaction and sideing with BJP and SRS. Unfortunatley all anti social and anti nationals belong to your community. Accept the fact. I think you need to write objectively.

Amazing ! How come Mangalore police became so sophisticated all of a sudden ? How could they suspect and also conclude so fast ? Do they have such efficient intelligence and investigation units ? Are these arrests politically motivated or is it just arresting someone based on previous records, or revenge tactics ? Or could it be based on religion alone ???
