Udupi, Nov 10: District BJP and Yuva Morcha members protested over the arrest of the editor-in-chief of Republic Media Network Arnab Goswami at Tiger Circle in Manipal here on Tuesday, November 10.

Coastal Development Authority president Mattar Rathnakar Hegde condemning the act by Maharashtra government said, "Media plays the role of being a mirror of society. The Thackeray family has always identified themselves as a Hindu nationalist party but Uddhav Thackeray is trying to eliminate all those ideologies just for the sake of power. I do not think, this government will be in power for a long time. The government in Maharashtra is heading in the wrong direction and suppressing the voice of media. The BJP believes that those who are innocent should not be punished. The BJP supports and is with Arnab."











Mangaluru division in-charge Uday Kumar Shetty said, "Arrest of journalist Arnab is a purely a conspiracy by the Maharashtra government. Media is an important part of the Indian Constitution just like the judiciary, legislative and executive wing. In a democratic country like India, the Maharashtra government has taken away the freedom of the press just to stay in power."

Uday Kumar also alleged that Arnab was targeted in the suicide case. Further, he maintained that if Arnab was found guilty then law shall take its course and the BJP will not interfere with the investigation. While also urging that the investigation must not be used in a way that humiliates Arnab publicly.

Vikhyath Shetty president, district Yuva Morcha, Sharath Shetty Uppunda, general secretary, Yuva Mocha, Yashpal Suvarna, secretary, Veena Shetty district president, Mahila Morcha, Geethanjali Suvarna, Prabhakar Poojary, Guruprasad, Praveen Kumar Kappettu, Akshith Shetty Herga and others were present.

    I’m not a supporter of Arnab Goswami or his news channel. But Maharashtra Police manhandling and arresting him now is clearly an act of political vendetta. He should have been arrested two years ago when complaint was filed against him for abetting suicide. Why was he let off then when both SS and BJP were in power? If SS was truly seeking justice for the victim’s family, they should have prevented the BJP from favouring Arnab or should have come out of the coalition.

    It's a sad situation that these educated bhakts from coastal districts can not differentiate between what right and what's wrong, what's true journalism and what's fake news factory. The damage is already done and reversal is difficult but society will keep suffering due to interest of few power hungry people. Instead these people should be protesting against conditions of our roads, government schools, government run hospitals, public health, price rises, unemployment, farmers distress, corruption in public service and so on.....and on....on.....
    Let the justice system of the country decide who is wrong and who is right and punish the guilty. When thousands of innocent or wrong people get arrested and punished no protests. When minor girls get raped and killed then no protests..... what's a situation and society we are in today.
    Governments and Political parties come and fall but only common people will suffer.
