Arnab Goswami released from jail, returns to Republic TV office

Mumbai, Nov 12 (IANS): Republic TV Managing director and Editor in Chief Arnab Goswami was released from the Taloja Central Jail in Raigad late on Wednesday night.

The development came hours after the Supreme Court granted him bail following his arrest on November 4 in a case of abetment to suicide of Mumbai architect Anvay M. Naik and his mother Kumud Naik on May 5, 2018 in Alibaug.

Returning from the jail, flashing a 'V' sign and punching in the air several times enroute his car, Goswami termed his arrest as "illegal" and said no forces could stop a journalist and his TV channel.

He was accorded a rousing, hero's welcome by the Republic TV staff as he entered the office late on Wednesday with plans to go on air.

Goswami told mediapersons that he was "absolutely fine" and looking forward to work amid a thunderous applause outside his office building.

how police can decide that 'Non payment of bills' is a reason for abetment to suicide just because of the suicide note. if state police wants to fix anybody not only in Maharashtra, they will fix anyhow. But, don't support police force because u don't like Arnab or BJP

Do you suggest that Maharashtra Police to arrest Uddhav Thackrey because state transport employee in his suicide note mentioned that he is taking this step because Uddhav govt didn't pay his salary. Arnab has been released on the condition that he has to cooperate with police inquiry and a Bond.
Police definitely will file a report based on suicide victims family complaint. Law will take its course in due process. Definitely politics is involved in this case so it was closed earlier in 2018 and Republic TV is favoring BJP!!!

whether you people agree with Arnab or not that is different. but in this case it is very simple logic. As per law, once the case is closed in court then police cannot re-open it without court permission. here the case was re-opened by police without any approval. and second point is that more than 20 armed policemen with pistol/riffles carried out Arnab's arrest. that also observed by court. not only that he was jailed in taloja where most dangerous under world criminals were there. so all these points are helped Arnab's bail. forget about Arnab, the way govt/police dept followed in this case is totally undemocratical & tomorrow it may happened with any common man.

First and foremost, why Arnab has been in this situation today? Got involved in abetment to architect and his mother suicide case, scolding SS people, getting arrested and going to notorious jail. Very painful thing. Just ponder all these things...

I am a senior citizen and throughout my life, I never put into myself in this situation and it is not necessary also.

We have to be just and right in our dealings and try to be good in our life. Then, everything will follow you.

If anyone reads SC judgement it becomes very clear that this case has brought highest court's intervention where there is state excesses with breach of process of law. This judgment will help in many cases where police take law into their hands and torture innocent.

Some or many may not like Mr. Arnab's way of journalism but state cannot act in haste and go for punishing him by breaching process of law.

This is what we can construe from yesterday's SC judgment.

Please read the words of Honorable SC Judge as below:

"Whatever be his ideology, least I don't even watch his channel, but if in this case constitutional court's do not interfere today, we are travelling the path of destruction undeniably," Justice Chandrachud said, adding, "the point is can you deny personal liberty of a person on these allegations"

I request all to think about it.

Arnab has been released after illegal arrest and unlawful detention by the Maharashtra govt and Mumbai police in simple vendetta for exposing some bigwigs involved in SSR death.

Arnab's case can not be compared with the likes of Lalu and so many others who are involved in cases proved with solid evidence. However Arnab should thank Uddhav and Parambir for making a hero out of him.
He may be a BJP man but almost all other channels are working for congress but people have no issues with that.

Sessions court denied bail.... High Court denies bail.....He gets SC hearing date within 24 hrs and got bail....

People like 81 year old Varavara Rao (807 days in jail), 84 year old Parkinson's patient Stan Swamy hearing is delayed by 20days on whether he can get a sipper to drink water, Sudha Bharadwaj, Sharjeel Imam, Kappan etc. do not get any hearing... Just becuase these aforementioned people do not agree with Govt views.

Yogi talks about freedom of press and jails a Kerala journalist (over 30 days) just because he went to cover Hathras case.

Not a single channel news shows about arrest or release. That says a lot.

The NDA agenda is to threaten the state run parties. They go to any extent.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Arnab said such things about the late Bala Saheb. This Udhav is in power and responsible position and cannot just respond on every barking dog.

In India, if anybody got cheated like that genuinely they can approach either police station, if they refuse to aceept case then they can approach SP.
If all police rejects your genuine case, then you can contact one lawyer and approach local court and court can redirect police to file FiR under section 420.
I hope you understand the logic behind. There is nothing like all doors closed in India. In India there is still lot of hopes and good system is in place. Please do not pass judgments by looking at someone's death notes
