Gritty Bengaluru woman gets man arrested for flashing at her

Bengaluru, Nov 13 (IANS): A woman from Bengaluru, who had to go through a horrifying experience after a man from her locality flashed at her from a terrace, got the culprit arrested on Wednesday. However, the police let him off with a strict warning on Thursday.

A resident of Koramangala, the woman took to Instagram on Tuesday to post snaps of a man standing on a terrace and flashing at her on November 8.

The man lives just two blocks away from her apartment, and since the houses aren't well spaced out, she got a clear view of the pervert.

"I moved into this apartment one month ago. His house is not very far from mine. He stood there staring at me for an hour, which made me very uncomfortable. The first thought in my head was to not stay silent. The second thought was of fear because he knew which building I was living in. So I yelled at him and used abusive words. Immediately, his pants dropped and he gave me a disgusting smile while he flashed at me," she posted on her Instagram account.

She stated that she threatened to take pictures of him and when she brought out her camera, the pervert pulled up his pants and stood there watching her.

Initially, the woman was sceptical about calling the police and decided to get counsel from women helplines. She tried reaching out to Vanitha Sahayavani, 1091, and National Commission For Women (NCW) but they were not reachable. Finally, she called the police and got the pervert arrested.

In another post, she said that first she informed her landlord about the incident, who advised her to approach the police.

Then, she shared her traumatic experience on social media to ask help from friends, activists, NGOs and lawyers.

Her social media post began with the question - "Is flashing an offence in India?"

She added that while the law is still in a grey area (over such cases), she wanted to raise her voice against the accused and get him punished.

"So I called the police on November 9. From Koramangala police station, I was connected to the Viveknagar police station. The man was identified and arrested. I was also escorted to the station for filing my complaint," she said.

The following day, the police informed the woman that they would have to let off the man with a strict warning. Her next resort was to approach a lawyer but knowing that it would be a long, tedious process, she decided not to put herself through that ordeal.

A senior police officer told IANS that it wouldn't be easy for any single woman to take such a case to a logical end and as a result of this, the police's hands are also tied. "We cannot act on our own unless the victim chooses to take the matter to a logical end," he said.

    People,

God has given humans 'eye-lids' with specific purpose....if you don't like to see something 'dastardly' you can close your eyes....there is a purpose for eye-lids....

See our other vital sensory organs like nose, ears don't have lids to cover them...

If anybody don't still understand reasons/ logic of 'Gods Creations' feel free to contact my Guru for details...He is patiently waiting for his Rs 15 Lakhs promised to him by Modiji !!!...

Langooji, one can close eyes to certain extent for certain things,But when one crosses the red line, have to admit it will be still dangerous .So have to show them where he has not dare to come.Keeping quiet might encourage him and next knock on her door or way lay when she goes to work or school.Good thoughts from her and action.I fear such people will not take back still to trouble her,so she better change her flat or not show on Balkon .Such third class people are dangerous.

Is it sufficient just to let off the culprit with a warning? At least, the police could do something so that the guy will never be able to flash again. Our police go by the archaic rule book. Get innovative officers!

All the people who are saying that cleavage is being shown, do you know what she was wearing at the time? That photo of hers is a different photo. It doesn't justify what that man did. People talking about culture should read our own history and they'll realize that women were topless in the olden days.

Let's take a look at apex court judges recent observations while hearing of the bail plea of Arnav...,
Objecting to grant bail, Maharastra Govt's legal counsel expressed apprehension and draw the judges attention to toxic, judgemental & premature conclusions with the biased motive or hidden agenda, which not only damage the secular fabric of the society but may also potentially incite the people engage in unruly/ lawless culture by using media under the garb of press freedom...,

In response to the above submission the officiating judge responded like this and I quote. - ". I don't watch Republic TV..., and went on to say that... better you don't watch it..."

Extrapolating the same view here to the above reported news... the wisdom line is better "don't watch the actions of such perverts.."

Who knows the truth... someone better talk to the alleged guy in action...., May be the lady in question would have been cought..., Now to prove sainthood better file a case..., It's important b'coz police officer warned without registering a case, means the guy would have briefed or spilled information which would have caused more embarrassment to the lady..

Better to check & know whether the pervert is a nationalist or otherwise...!!!

Its time displaying clevage is also branded into same category as flashing. No one has the right to tempt the opposite sex in society in name of freedom & modernity. Half baked western culture in India has given rise to corruption of mind

When you know you get tempted by the provocative signs, you should divert your attention and concentration and start focussing on other things. It's easy to blame ladies. You guys look at them, encourage them, flashing at them that's nothing to going to affect some who show their beauty. Why men walk with shirt open? It's not provocative? If not then, it's everyone's freedom to dress up. But, ladies should be more careful if anything happens they are the sufferers not men.
