Dubai: Dr Prashanth Raj, Antakshari, Enthrall Audience at ‘Rang Tarang'

Dubai, May 9: Dubai witnessed a stunning show with superlative entertainment and glamour in ‘Humaid Al Suwaidi Rang Tarang 2010’ held on Friday May 7 at the Emirates Theatre.
‘Integrated Freight and Logistics FAMAD Antakshari’ and ‘Merit Freight Dr Prashanth Raj Live in Concert’ were two highlights of the mega event.
A packed audience, spectacular stage, excellent music, and superb singing by Dr Prashanth Raj and superlative performance by finalists of the Antakshari enhanced the charm of the evening.
The show began with the instrumental prayer hymn ‘Tum Kallzachea Gondea Mojea’ followed by a Konkani ‘Antakshari’ competition with four finalist couples.
The programme began with Dony Correa, master of ceremony of the evening, and Asha Correa introducing the finalists of FAMAD Antakshari—Meena Omzoor and Naveen Angelore of ‘Bhognnam’ team, Henry and Rita Pernal of ‘Utraam’ team, Diany Pamboor and Reshma Gantalkatte of ‘Solfaam’ team, Uttam Menezes Bendur and Sheela Carlo Agrar of ‘Geetam’ team.
‘Bandi re Bandi’, ‘Sobdam Gayan’, ‘Mujhe Sangeeth Tujem Geeth’, ‘Charana Pallavi’, ‘Mujho Tallo Tujo Ulo’, ‘Apa-lipa’, and ‘Sobdam Gondol’ were all part of the contest.
Uttam Menezes and Sheela Agrar won the Antakshari with a huge difference in the points scored by runners-up Diany D’Souza and Reshma Pereira.
The winners took home a cash prize of AED 3,000 and a memento while the runners-up received a cash prize of AED 1,500 and a memento.
Among individual prizes, Uttam Menezes was adjudged ‘Voice of FAMAD Antakshari’ whereas Meena Angelore was the ‘Best Entertainer of FAMAD Antakshari’. All the participants were given gift vouchers from Winny’s Restaurant and gift hampers from Himalaya Herbals.
The second part of entertainment consisted of live singing by Konkani's mellifluous voice-Dr Prashanth Raj. He began with a prayer song ‘Deva Tum Zavnasai Mog’ followed by ‘Manglura’, ‘Ye Mojea Mana’, ‘Bhangar Tum Mojem’, ‘Mog Kortam (Tujea Galantlea Fondkulyamni)’, ‘Ie Cheddwa Tuzo Mog’, 'Tuje Sobhit Te Don Dolle', ‘Andhkarachi Raat’, and ‘Maria’ as a tribute to Amar Wilfy Rebimbus.
A standing ovation when he sang ‘Maria’, forced him to give an encore. Dr Raj was accompanied by his wife Dr Sudha Mascarenhas and singer Asha Correa.
Herman Lewis, a well-known Konkani activist and CEO of ‘105.4 FM Radio Spice’, and his wife Nisha were felicitated by FAMAD Pernal for his contribution to the Mangalorean community through his radio channel.
The prize distribution ceremony was held as a concluding part of the event. Lancy Madtha of Integrated Freight and Logistics and Joseph Mathias of Merit Freight Systems were on stage and did the honours. Earlier Vincy Lobo conducted a brief felicitation.
Arun Carlo and his team once again won hearts for their excellent music.
Konkani devotional CD ‘Tujya Gharanth’ produced by Savil Mascarenhas was released by his brother Anil Mascarenhas.
FAMAD Pernal led by its president Charles Mathias, Dony Correa, Dinesh Correa, Asha Correa, Vincy Lobo, Wilfred Mathias and all the members put in a lot of creativity and efforts to make the event a super-hit.
