Bengaluru: Woman held for posing as judge's representative, collecting saris sans payment

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 17: A lady who chose 120 saris, told the saris shop owner that they were required to be taken to the residence of a judge where a marriage ceremony is proposed to be held. She said once the family chooses the saris she will return the remaining saris and make payment. She went missing thereafter. On the basis of complaint made, the police have taken into custody the woman. She has been identified as Shashikala.

Before the woman visited the sari shop, the shop owner had received a call. The caller claimed to be speaking from the residence of a judge and claimed that a marriage function was being held in the house shortly, and the family was in need of the grand 'Pattoor Patte Sari'. The voice said that a person was being deputed to the said shop for collecting the saris before disconnecting.

After some minutes, the woman in question came to the shop. She got the saris delivered to an apartment at Sampigehalli but did not pay money. The estimated price of the saris was about three lac rupees. The shopkeeper, immediately after sensing that he had been taken for a ride, filed a complaint. In a swift operation, the police arrested the accused and confiscated the saris.

Alwyn D souza,Canada, you are right. We blame others for our own foolishness ,not want to do something our own ,but jealous when others are shining. Here shop keeper atleast woke up early enough before he was duped completely. How he could believe so blindly on a telephone call. When saris are needed, certainly person would come with his ID ,or let him leave back some money as safety.

The businessmen in India are used to give people in the Judiciary, Elected representatives, law enforcement agencies and etc., regular gifts or freebies. So the trader in this case as a regular formality was taken for a ride.
