Udupi: II PUC Topper Swati Acharya Seeks Your Support

Udupi: II PUC Topper Swati Acharya Seeks Your Support
by Chethan Padubidri
Daijiworld Media Network—Udupi (RD/CN)

Udupi, May 11: Swati Acharya, a II PUC arts student of Padubidri Government Junior College, near here, bagged the first place in the district and made history in the 25-year existence of her college.

Swati who hails from an economically poor family secured this distinction by rolling ‘beedies’ at home after return from college each day.

She is the second of the three daughters of Jagdish and Jayalaxmi Acharya, residing in Padebettu village under Padubidri gram panchayat.

Swati was keen about academics since her early childhood. She wanted to pursue studies in science after her SSLC which she passed with high marks.

However, owing to acute poverty, she had to shelve her plans of joining a science college which would require her to seek admission in a college away from home.

Swati’s father Jagdish is a petty goldsmith who manages the family with his meager earnings.  Her mother Jayalaxmi was supplementing the family income by ‘beedi’ rolling.

The family had to support the education of three daughters from their pooled income.  Swati sacrificed her interest in sports so as to join her mother in beedi rolling after retuning from college each day.She continued her studies and her dream of bagging the first place in the district was realized this year.

Swati dreams of pursuing higher studies which can be realized only with generous contributions from philanthropists.

“I wanted to join I PUC science after my SSLC, which remained as a mirage due to acute poverty in the family. Furthermore, the family had to support studies of my other sisters which made me to join arts in the Government College.  I rolled beedies to earn a little money.  I want to pursue B Com and get a good job and start earning to take care of my parents and sisters”, says Swati hopefully.  She also acknowledges the support of her parents and sisters in life.

Jagdish Acharya said, “I will support her studies despite financial constraint”.

Swati Acharya seeks financial support from generous philanthropists, to realize her goal.

I am really happy to see the response and feel great of my country and my country men particularly who stay outside like me. Swathi needs all our support to reach top in her life and also to help her sisters and parants who deffinately contributed to her success. It is clear that society support hardworking/merit students. Lots to be done still Swathi.

Now concentrate on your study as more challange is there for you in future. Come out successfully. Dream big and you deserve it. When I spoke, you mentioned that you want to become a lecturer. Great, it is. I want to tell my fellow NRI's that I did contribute (no need to mention how much) and you know what to do. Once again all the best to Swathi and his entire family.

The truth is even if half the guys who made the declaration and contributed to the best of their ability I think both the reporter and Daiji have done their job and just becoz you have a platform please don't abuse the same by spewing such venom. Whoever the reader have promised 100% they will help Swathi, may be you have a different kind of selfish mentality which you want to bring it in to the showcase after helping the people, the trust and loving people will never do that in front, we are proud of that our sister had achieved her target up to this stage with the support of her parents, who have a trust and love in their heart they will help Swathi, better you don’t wanna know about that who ever deposited and how much?, that’s non of your business, better you use your calculator for something else.

And we are proud to be say that the Daijiworld is from Mangalore, and also we have a fully trust with D A I J I W O R L D who bring the news universally in every movement each corner of the world with all the clear snaps and excellent substantiation.

Just spoke on the number and donated. Friends, you can speak to her dad before donating to clear your doubts or generally get an idea of what they are planning for her/sisters. This will have its impact. Moreover you cannot expect the money to be used literally for education, but more as a support so that she can concentrate on her studies and not get distracted/worried by poverty and issues related to it. Guess I am making sense:-) Best wishes. -Praveen SA

    Loknath,

Why are you thinking that anybody is discouraging the donors ? What do you think the family will do with the easy money ? Perhaps pomp and posh marriage of the elder daughter ? Believe it or not prospective grooms may already be lined up to marry the elder daughter and loot all the collections in dowry. The family needs more than alms, the guidance. Swati has through her hard work earned a scholarship which she must go and claim. Stop making people handicap - help them to look into broader horizons and be proud - not indedeted.

It is not the right time to discourage the donors, people who are willing to help, kindly allow them to help...dont put a negetive thinks unnecessarily....it is not a political issue...even govt is seeking public donations in natural calamities.we have to appreciate the DAIJIs effort.govt can not take individual's decision immediatly...lot of rules and regulations should be fallowed.... govt scholorship and fees concesion is not enough to Swathi acharya education since she belongs to poor family. If she wait......we have a great India and great democracy having 1300million people.I appreciate and happy to read commentors block except one or two.

I fully agree with Lydia Lobo that Swati’s college and the government would and should provide her with scholarships and meet her educational expenses. However, providing her with financial support by the general public would not only help her stop beedi-rolling that is harmful to her health but also help her concentrate in her further studies. She is a top-notch girl, who in spite of her hardships, secured the top position.

Besides, providing her with financial help by the general public would be an appreciation for her excellent efforts in bringing a name to the district. She is a role model for every student.
I hope besides the government and her college, various institutions would come forward in helping her and her family.

I congratulate Swati in her achievement and wish all the best in her future endeavors.

This is not to discourage the donations which will bring some solace to the poor family but is she not entitled to full scholarship ? The school must take a lead in availing the Govt. scheme and support the student that brought such a glory to the institution.
