Mangaluru: Two swindled by people posing as bank staff

Mangaluru, Nov 19: In two different incidents which happened on Tuesday November 17, callers posing as bank staff succeeded in getting credit and debit card details and siphoning off Rs 1.53 lac from their victims.

A person from Pandeshwar here received a call on November 17 on his mobile phone. The caller introduced himself to be an officer of SBI credit card department. He said he wanted to reactivate the card and collected credit card number, OTP etc. Immediately a sum of Rs 80,000 was transferred from the victim's account.

In the other case, a person from Mulky received a call from a mobile phone. The caller said he was from Bank of Baroda and wanted to transfer Vijaya Bank debit card to Bank of Baroda. He collected debit card and CVV number etc and transferred a sum of Rs 73,182 in phases.

Complaints about these transactions were filed the cybercrime police station here.

    Instead of sending helo tune and astrology mesage, mobile company has to send awareness mesage to customers, that bank does not ask for otp and cvv numbers and educate people..

    Majority of these fraudsters are never caught, so once the money is gone don't have any hopes!
    When big banks & credit socities commit fraud of 1000s of crores this is nothing!
    Recently a cooperative credit society having a chain of stores in and around Mangalore have duped investors to the extent of 350 crores & escaped!
    This is the trending profession in digital India?

    There was a fraud call centre which used to operate in Gurgaon and scam people by pretending to be Microsoft services. A hacker called jim browning from the UK hacked into their cctv and exposed them. It was full fledged network of businesses making millions a year. We need stronger cyber laws and cyber police in india.

    sp mangalore,what is the use of all these cyber police,cyber laws ,so long people who get duped ,believe and without a second thought handover their card and give their number?Some people are so naiv ,believe goodness in others.It is sad .Best is why cant they get a sms in their mobile as soon as money is being drawn from their account.These goons are living with others money .Have no feelings no heart.

    Yesterday I received a call from a person and he introduced himself as a bank manager. He asked me to reactivate the Debit card asked about the card number But I realized the plan behind his call and immediately rejected the call. Please be aware of these fraudsters and inform your family also.
