Udupi, Nov 19: “A building for modern and well equipped district hospital which is suitable for medical college will be constructed soon,” said MLA Raghupathi Bhat.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting on the construction of district hospital held in the deputy commissioner’s office on Thursday, November 19.

“The blueprint of the building should be prepared making sure that people have easy access to medical services. Construction of an emergency treatment unit, outpatient department, surgery room, laboratory, dialysis centre and ICU on the ground floor will be convenient for the patients,” he said.

“The hospital with 250 beds at a cost of Rs 115 crores will be constructed on an area of 27,375 sq m according to the coastal weather. It will be started soon and completed within a scheduled period. Parking for vehicles of medical staff and people visiting the hospital will be provided in the basement of the hospital. Officials will inspect the availability of space and other things, know the pros and cons before preparing the blueprint,” he said.

Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said that the hospital should be constructed on empty space behind the old hospital retaining the old hospital building. “It will not pose problems for current patients and the old hospital will be useful later. Sufficient open space is available for the new building in the present hospital premises. Only a road will be needed to the new building,” he said.

District panchayat CEO Dr Navin Bhat, additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, district surgeon Dr Madhusoodan Nayak, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda and other officials were present.

Hospital Building architecture and facilities should be designed by well known designers. It should be aesthetically pleasing with broad access roads. Also make provisions to increase the height of the building for expansion in future. Wish good luck and hope, it will be commissioned on time.
