Mangalore, May 13: Naxal-infested areas of Kundapur taluk like Machchattu, Jadkal, Kerady, Ajri, Mudoor, Halkal, Amasebail, Shankarnarayana, Hallihole, Hosangady, Madamakki etc., where additional security personnel were deployed to ensure peaceful polling, recorded a good turn out. The people living in the foot of the Western Ghats came out and exercised their voting rights in good numbers. As a result, 75.28 percent polling was recorded in Kundapur taluk, where 1, 61,056 voters out of 2, 13,934 eligible voters exercised their franchise.
Ballot boxes from the polling booths in the taluk were brought and stored in Bhandarkar’s College Kundapur, which has been designated as the de-mustering centre, on Wednesday night. Counting will be taken up in all the taluk headquarters on May 17.
Dakshina Kannada registered a voting of 75%. Puttur taluk with 79% topped the list while Bantwal and Beltangady taluks with 72% polling, recorded lowest turn out.
St Rosario composite PU College in the city, Infant Jesus English medium school Modankap, SDM College Ujire, St Philomena College Puttur and KVG Engineering College Sullia have been designated as mustering, de-mustering and counting centres for the gram panchayat election.
