Tumkur: Eight Killed, Three Injured in Highway Accident

Tumkur, May 13: Eight persons including a three-month-old baby were killed in a macabre accident that occurred on Wednesday May 12 in the district. The Tavera vehicle they were travelling in, hit a truck when the truck driver moving in front applied brakes when stopped by regional transport authorities at Bellavi Cross in the district for checking.

It is learnt that those travelling in the ill-fated Tavera were from Akkoradi village in Maharashtra. The group, comprising mostly of members of the same family, was returning home after their pilgrimage to Tirupati. They have been identified as Raghunath Pandarkar (50), driver Dhanaji (35), Prathamesh (19), Revati (45), Reshma (28), Najuka (20), Shrutika (5) and child, Shruti.

Six of the deceased were killed on the spot, while the other two breathed their last at the hospital. Four injured persons were admitted into a hospital in Bangalore. The other family members, who were following in another car, took steps to admit the injured to hospitals. The truck driver was arrested.
