Honnavar, May 13: The statues of St Joseph and Mary at Holy Cross Shrine here were stoned by some miscreants, thus damaging the glass enclosure.

The incident came to light when the damage was noticed by the people who came to offer prayers on Thursday May 13 morning. They informed the police regarding the same.

The portraits inside the shrine were not damaged in the incident. However the glass enclosure has been destroyed.

The beautiful shrine situated on a private land near the highway here, is an ancient place of worship. It was renovated ten years ago. People of all faith pay visit to the holy place.

Ronald Jerome D’Souza of Holy Cross Betterment Committee has lodged a police complaint.

Reportedly seven stones have been thrown at the shrine that has damaged the glass enclosure. The in-charge deputy commissioner and higher police officials visited the spot. They had a meeting with the community leaders.

    This is an act of insane and misguided people. After all what one achieves by damaging he places of worships? The faith of believers shall not weaken. Such acts only reinforce the belief. The facists parties and organisations which pursue the ideology of hate and devision are behind such attacks. The other political parties take undue advantage of this fundamental philosophy and organise such attacks only the widen the devision and speed up the disintegration of peaceful society.

    We must come together like all got one voice on Patraos case and protest these attacks. The culprits must be booked. Night vision CCTV need to be installed. Whoever behind these attacks must be exposed and punished.

    I call upon my loving christian community to forgive these anti socials and pray to God to give them right guidance and light.

    Honavar under The Diocese of Karwar has always been a very peaceful place. The present Bishop of Karwar Diocese Most Reverend Derek Fernandes is doing his best to have peaceful relations with all communities. In the light of such a concept it is surprising that the unruly elements indulge in vandalism. This cancerous attitude should be brought under control and it my hope that The Chief Minister who has making all sorts of promises will ensure that the culprits are booked.

If we are His true followers, we too must do this.
