Bengaluru, Nov 23: Department of Public Instruction has decided to cut down the syllabus prescribed for the academic year 2020-21 as there will be further delay in restarting of schools due to coronavirus pandemic.

Already an order is taken out by the department to reduce the syllabus of pre-university classes by 30% for the academic year 2020-21. However, it is gathered that even 70% of the syllabus will be difficult to teach for the lecturers and students to learn as the PU colleges have not yet started.

In the midst of this chaos, the department of public instruction has asked the opinion of the experts committee with regards to the reduction of syllabus of SSLC students. According to a senior officer, the department is mulling to reduce the syllabus scientifically in relation to the number of days that will be available for teaching in the current academic year.

In the academic year 2020-21, only four months of December, January, February and March are left. There is no decision yet on the restarting of classes. So the department of public Instruction has asked the experts of various subjects of Department of State Education Research and Training (DSERT) to reduce the syllabus based on the number of days available in the current academic year.

There is a possibility that the subject experts committee, which has already reduced 30% of the syllabus, may further reduce the syllabus by 50 or 60 percent. The government will take a final decision on this as per the information given by an officer of DSERT.
