Mangaluru, Nov 23: Permission to board the flight was denied to a woman passenger, who was supposed to fly to a gulf country, at the international airport here on the night of Friday as the airport authorities suspected the authenticity of Covid testing report of the passenger.

Chand Begum, a native of Shivamogga, had got her Covid test done at Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences on November 18. On November 19, she got the report. In order to go to a gulf country, she arrived at 11.30 pm on November 20 to Mangaluru International Airport. But the authorities at the airport denied her permission to board the aircraft as they found that the spelling of Shivamogga is different at two places mentioned in the Covid report as per the information shared by a relative of Chand Begum.

Zakir Hussain, brother of Chand Begum said, "We had to return without boarding the flight as repeated appeals to the officials of the airlines were not heard till 3 am on Saturday, November 21. Though the relatives of Chand Begum got the issue clarified by the senior officer of the concerned laboratory of the hospital, the officials of SpiceJet denied permission to board. So Chand Begum had to undergo Covid test once again on Saturday, in a hospital in Mangaluru."

Replying to the query by scribes, Santhosh, PRO of SpiceJet said, "I am not aware as to why the woman passenger was not allowed to board the flight. We have to follow several protocols of the central government as well as the foreign country to which the passengers are travelling to. Detailed information will be sought from the concerned officer who was on duty on the night of Friday with regards to this incident.

    This Mangalore airport is one of the worst airport in the world, officials badly needs to be trained. Almost all staffs in this airport are arrogant and too much proud.. My personal experience in this airport is so bad that although i waste lots of money and time I always prefer Bengaluru airport and commute to mangalore by road. I feel pity for this lady and wonder why she chooses Mangaluru airport over Bengaluru Airport although she is from Shimoga..

    imagine if it was a celebrity or politician it would be Approved in seconds, this country has separate personalized rules for -

    " common citizens and high level citizens " because of the type of democracy.

    haven't you seen in social media videos how celebrities & politicians are given super fast access in airports without proper check.

    Adani is very strict with spellings and thanks to Govt. for changing the names as per their wish. 😊😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Common people sufferings, have to suffer and their life's are into considerations now.

    Everyone has given Thier own view,here main is human error,party should have double check the cirtifcate, if any spelling mistakes there if any, And Hospital also responsible for this, before hand over they should have checked as well told the party to check when recive it, if airport official let travel,some time at at end may stuck. That time people blame officer's why they let go. It's our duity to check our documents.before travel.

    Last year me & my wife had booked an Air India flight Mumbai - Mangalore - Mumbai.
    Unfortunately we missed the Mumbai - Mangalore flight & we made alternative arrangements.
    After 2 days we went to board AI Mangalore - Mumbai return flight but we were refused admission & the reason given was we had not taken the incoming flight to Mangalore.
    It took us One hour to convince Air India we are the same people who had missed the flight ...

    this is same mistake happend in my case mistake in my name but same day i correct it imform to hospital staff correct the name in certificate like me many people suffering becouse of corona virus airport staff should allow poeple to travel in small mistake.

    Something irrelevant and funny matter to stop intl. passenger from travelling simply because spelling mistakes in name of a place. First of all, lot's of people working GCC are undergoing irregularities and job losses and travel restrictions, financial problems and this type of harassment is far beyond any ones justification

    Flavian Kuwait,you are right.I think her test was ok,only name of place was written wrong .why do someone make fuss and on spelling mistake as if it was about handover a property docu.These people never mind what will happen to others whereas their chair is still sure.(oder not for long)Higher officer should take him to task and make him to refund her ticket money,and kick him out.

    It is not Birth Cert or any official cert..it is Covid test report and minor spelling mistake in native place.
    The officer who did not accept this at the airport, must be suspended for 2-3 months with no salary.
    So that he should think twice importance of the traveler.

    After all it's a genuine error and nothing was wrong with her passport or visa.
    I have a very simple question:
    If there was a ruling party MLA or MP in Chand Begum's place, would they still refuse him or her permission to fly? We all know the answer.

    Spelling mistake in place name. And passenger not allowed to board. Really it is wrong done by airlines who were at the counter.

    Mistakes will happen in many things. It is not fare to deny travel just for small spelling mistake..

    These flights are cancelling at the last moment. No refund received till now which were cancelled during lockdown. Some say passenger has to book the same flight again. No refund. Does they have job now. They lost job. Where to travel. Spicejet customer care phones are not operating. We had to hear computer voice or robot voice.

    I think this is the adverse effect of changing names of places. Formerly the city was called Shivmoga, now the spelling has been changed to “Shivamogga”. Perhaps the concerned clerk used different spellings at two places in the same paper. Yet it was unfair on the part of the officer to deny boarding the flight when her own name and identity was correct.

    Hospital is fully responsible for all consequences. They have to pay for every thing. A medical report required to travel international level have the spelling mistakes of place, how one could trust the authenticity of the report it self?
