Udupi, Nov 23: Udyavar St Francis Xavier Church bagged the first place in the Udupi zonal level Machado's Golden Quiz in the memory of Elias Machado. It was held as the 32nd programme of the golden jubilee celebration of ICYM Udyavar.
Eight teams of zone took part in the quiz competition that was held at the auditorium of St Francis Xavier church Udyavar. While the second place was secured by St Lawrence Church Moodubelle, the third and fourth places were secured by St Vincent D'Paul Church Katapadi and St Antony's Church Kuntalnagar respectively.
Quiz competition sponsor and former president of ICYM Donald Machado inaugurated the programme. He lauded the efforts of the golden jubilee celebration committee for organising several programmes aimed for the betterment of the community as well as the environment in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The assistant parish priest of St Francis Xavier Church Fr Rolwin Aranha said, "ICYM Udyavar is in its golden jubilee year and had many dreams. It is really a proud moment that those dreams are being realized."
Udyavar team, which bagged the first place got Rs 7,777 in cash and a trophy. Moodubelle Church got Rs 5,555 in cash and trophy for coming in second. Udupi, Kalmady, Perampalli, Kuntalnagar, Katapadi and Ermal church teams also took part in the competition.
Parish priest of Kalmady Stella Mary's Church Fr Alban D'Souza and Jeethendra Furtado, immediate past president of Palimar gram panchayat, who were the chief guests of the valedictory function, said, "There are many talents in Udyavar. It is really great that many programmes are being organized in the Udupi zone and diocese level with the help of such talents."
Vice president of pastoral council Melwin Noronha, sponsor Donald Machado, Agnes Machado, director of Udyavar golden jubilee committee Gerald Pereira and ICYM president Royal Castelino were present on the dais.
President of the golden jubilee committee Michael D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Treasurer Roshan Crasta rendered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Rosalia Cardoza and Steevan Colaco.
