Mangalore : New Terminal - Inauguration on Saturday - Operations in Early June
Daijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (CN)

Mangalore, May 14: The inauguration of the much-awaited new terminal building of Mangalore airport is scheduled to be held on Saturday May 15. Praful Patel, union minister of state for civil aviation, will inaugurate it.

“The new terminal building is closer by seven kilometers than the old terminal from the city and is easier for commuters to access. The dream of the people of this area will be realized with the inauguration”, said V P Agarwal, chairman, Airports Authority of India.

“The airport will start operations from the first week of June this year. The airport will operate as a customs airport and infrastructure facilities will be upgraded to that of an international airport”, he said, adding that the new terminal building has two aerobridges among other facilities.

“The Mangalore airport has witnessed growth every year. The total cost of the new airport is approximately Rs 250 crore”, said Agarwal. He thanked the state government for co-operating with the land acquisition.

“The one access road provided by the state government is not wide enough”, he said.

“There will be 16 flights operating from the airport and the old terminal will be used for cargo service or aviation education purposes”, said Agarwal adding that nothing has been decided yet and if it is to be used for cargo, there are two options—one is belly cargo and another one is dedicated cargo.

“Mysore airport will also be inaugurated on Saturday. The AAI will take up the work on Hubli and Belgaum airports after the inauguration of Mangalore and Mysore”, said the chairman, prioritizing Hubli.

How smart Mangalore Airport looked walking through the aerobridges for incoming passengers. Its much more comfortable and convenient for arrival passengers. No walking down stairs in the heat. Long waiting dreams of Mangaloriens comes true. Managalore airport will be overhualed in the coming years with a new terminal building, then we have aerobridges to cater for incoming passengers. Now we also expecting more international flights from Gulf countries or from the neighbouring countries. Our government must allow foreign airlines for international operations.

Time and again Mangaloreans are being fooled only to safeguard the national carrier, which otherwise has no capability to survive on its own quality of service. Once they it as international other airlines like Air Arabia, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways who owns narrow bodied aircraft, would definitely want to land in Mangalore. What a selfish way of thinking rather than improving the standard and quality of our national carrier.

Again the same problem. This airport will operate as a CUSTOMS AIRPORT. It means another 2 -3 years to get the title of Inter national aiprot. Till then Air India Express will rule the international route. All top leaders should look into this topic very seriously and today while opening this new terminal, AAI (Airoirt Authority of India) should this airport as International Airport

Looks like few things are seriously going wrong here. Earlier, when AAI expanded the old terminal with the new runway, it publically announced that Mangalore airport as CUSTOMS AIRPORT. That time Civil Aviation ministy promised all Mangaloreans that this airport will be converted into INTERNATIONAL airport, once the new terminal is ready. Now the new terminal is ready, new facilities are provided, still it is not d as “Customs Airport”. Look at the Airport sign board pictures from the latest two news, the sign board in the previous picture waiting for Airport’s Name. ( Whether to write Mangalore Airport or Mangalore INTERNATIONAL Airport) and in the latest picture you see that sign board is ready with only “Mangalore Airport”. So in short Mangalore airport will continue its status as CUSTOMS AIRPORT.
