Mysore: CM Inaugurates Airport


Mysore, May 16: Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa formally inaugurated the Mysore Airport at Mandakalli at 2.10 pm on Saturday, May 15 in lieu of Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, who was scheduled to do the honours.

Praful Patel, who had reached Mangalore to inaugurate the new airport there, had to rush back to Delhi owing to unforeseen circumstances.



Yeddyurappa landed at the Mysore airport in a special aircraft from Mangalore, where he had inaugurated the new airport earlier in the day. The CM, accompanied by Ministers and leaders, were greeted by District In-Charge Minister S Suresh Kumar, along with MLAs S A Ramdas, Tanveer Sait, MLC Siddaraju, Central Drought Relief Committee Chairman C N Manjegowda and others.

Mayor Sandesh Swamy, Opposition Leader Siddharamaiah, MPs H Viswanath and R. Dhruvanarayan, MLAs H S Mahadevprasad and M Sathyanarayana, MLCs Thontadarya and Prof K R Mallikarjunappa and others were on the dais. Yeddyurappa inaugurated the airport by pressing a remote button from the dais to unveil the nameboard.

About the airport

The Mandakalli airport is built at a cost of Rs. 82 crore under the first phase, enabling the landing and takeoff of ATR-72 type aircraft. In the second phase, the airport will be upgraded to accommodate Boeing 737 or A-320 sized passenger crafts.

The Terminal Building, a steel and fibre glass structure of world-class standard measures 3250 sq.mts. floor area, with a lounge capacity of 150 passengers at a time.

The terminal is centrally air-conditioned with various facilities. The airport parking lot can hold upto 150 cars.

    Karnataka is a modern state with lots of tourist places to visit. Specially in Mysore Chamundi Hills, Brindavan Gardens,Mysore Palace are the main attractions of tourists. Also famous Nandi and Srirangapatna. Distance between Mangalore and Mysore around 250 kms. It takes nearly 6 to 7 house by road. Private airlines operate between Mangalore and Mysore there is no doubt tourist will increase and save the time of travelings.

    Gali Reddy garu while briefing to the press said,he consulted 2-3 private airlines to operate to&fro from Mysore and to my surprise why state owned airlines(Indian Airlines)not consulted or no interest?

    Mysore Airport will remain as mere Airport with out active airlines operation.
