Afzal Hanging: BJP Slams Delhi Govt for Delay

NEW DELHI, May 19 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday hit out at the Delhi government for delaying parliament attack convict Afzal Guru's execution and claimed that 26/11 may not have happened had he been hanged earlier.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said: "Had they done it (execution) five years back, the world would have realised what India does to those who carry out terrorist activities. And may be even 26/11 would not have happened."

While backing the Supreme Court decision to hang Guru, the Delhi government has expressed concerns about the law and order situation in the wake of his execution. To this, Javadekar retorted: "This is an insult of Muslim patriotism. We condemn it. The Delhi government should give an unconditional recommendation."

BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also backed Javadekar's view. "The Delhi government has abused the patriotism of crores of Muslim," Naqvi said.

"Guru is a terrorist responsible for violence in India. Both Hindus and Muslims want him hanged immediately," added Naqvi, a statement said.

Guru was given death penalty by a Delhi court Dec 18, 2002 after holding him guilty of conspiring to attack parliament Dec 13, 2001, waging war against the country and murder.

The Supreme Court rejected Aug 4, 2005 his appeal against the death sentence, which was upheld by the Delhi High Court Oct 29, 2003.

A sessions court set the date of his hanging Oct 20, 2006 in Tihar Jail but his wife Tabassum filed a mercy petition before the president, delaying his execution.

According to the laid down procedure, the president sought the home ministry's views on the mercy petition and the home ministry, in turn, sought the Delhi government's comments.

I think Yusuf's comment is not ONE SIDED. Let me come to the main point. How many killers were hanged when BJP was in power ? And forget about Congress..they just forgot that such a punishment is existing in India. We have Afzal & Kasab in our custody. They are not the leaders of Terrorist org.Main person Gilani(Parliament attack) was released due to lack of evidence.Afzal Guru is a foot soldier. We fail to catch Elephants and celebrate by catching elephant's tail !

Mr. Youusf, Qatif/KSA, are you supporting criminals and killers like Afzal Guru, Osama bin laden, SIMI, Dawood Ibrahim and the political parties like Muslim league creating hell in the earth. Can you come alone with valuables from Qatif to Dammam. Do the Saudi Arabian police care for expatriates? How many expatriates are cheated looted in Saudi Arabia daily, mobiles are snatched away in day light. Ladies handbags are grabbed and thieves are flourishing with the help of police. Expatriates are scared to move in the night even some of the expatriates scared to keep open their boutiques after 11:00pm in the night. Concerning to Afzal guru let the law take its course.

Dear yousuf, Madhuri Gupta's investigation is going on. Court has not given verdict in her case yet. And BJP is not saying that do not punish her. It is forcing to punish the criminal/terrorist who has already given death sentence by the court. There may be 29 other convicts waiting, but Afzal Guru's case is not like other 29 cases. BJP has learnt a lesson with Kandahar episode. That is the reason it is forcing. Above all why are you seeing Afzal as muslim? You people say terrorism has no religion!!!

Bharatiya Janatha party might have forgot apart from Afzal Guru there are more betrayal like Madhuri Gupta still existing in India to destroy at most like 26/11

shame on political parties. Both BJP and congress playing majority and minority vote bank policies. They never concern about Afzal Guru. However his turn comes at number 29 then why is such drama every alternative day.
