Mangaluru: Boat tragedy - Search for missing fisherman on

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 4: Search operation for the lone missing fisherman who has not yet been found, is continuing. Out of the six fishermen who went missing after the fishing boat capsized 12 nautical miles off the seashore, five bodies have already been traced.

Ansar (31), the other missing fisherman from Casaba Bengre, could not be found even though the search operation was performed on Thursday morning to late night. A team of expert divers, coastal security police force, coast guard and purse siene boats worked round the clock to look for him but failed to make any headway.

The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district had asked the barge that is employed at Someshwar for ADB project to be deployed to lift the boat out of water. But later it became clear that this barge has the capacity to lift only things weighing up to 15 tonnes and hence it cannot help in lifting the drowned boat.

Inspector Gangi Reddy has requested the people getting any clue about the missing fisherman to convey the same to coastal security police or police control room in the city.

It is so sad that inspite of tremendous efffort round the clock by expert divers, coastal security police force, coast guard and purse siene boats, they are still unable to fine the lonely fisherman. Let's hope they will find his body soon and a great relief to the family members and all.

If only they had life jackets it would have been a rescue mission not dead body retrieval.

    Dear Ajay,

Its easy to say, but fishermen can't wear life jackets while working. It disturbs them in their work. They are all expert swimmers, but when they get stuck inside the fishing nets, its very difficult to swim. Life jackets are for those who can't swim & for leisure trips. Since we don't know the exact cause of death, its inappropriate to comment on this.
