Bangalore, May 21:  Former Karnataka Chief Minister and state JD(S) chief H D Kumaraswamy has lambasted Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his council of ministers for their callous attitude in disregarding the plight of the people of North Karnataka, who were affected by the worst-ever flood havoc in the state’s history for over a century, and doing precious little for providing shelter to the helpless victims.

"When the people of North Karnataka are suffering and worried about how they will survive the ensuing monsoon, the Chief Minister is busy visiting Bangalore’s Darshini Hotels for eating Masala Dosa,” he said and castigated the government for its utter failure in providing shelter to the flood-affected people despite massive Central assistance as also generous contributions from the public and various companies and organisations.

The Chief Minister was making a mockery of the people through his city rounds or ``nagara pradakshine’’ programmes, he said wondering whether the people wanted a chief minister and ministers to go to Darshini Hotels and eat Masala Dosas in the full glare of the media and enjoy seeing their pictures in newspapers.

Addressing a news conference, Kumaraswamy wanted to know the priorities of the BJP government in the State. Apart from eating Masala Dosas in the city, the chief minister and the entire government is busy hosting the Global Investors Meet spending crores of rupees, he said.

Kumaraswamy, who is also the Bangalore rural Lok Sabha MP from JD(S), asked the people to teach a befitting lesson to the chief minister and the ministers when they visit the flood-affected areas.

"There is no point in submitting memoranda and petitions or offering garlands and flower bouquets to these people or lining up the streets to extend a warm welcome,” he said and asked the people not to entertain them at all. ``They deserve to be kicked out and sent packing,”  he said.

The JD(S) leader said the Yeddyurappa regime lacked any sensitivity or concern for the people. ``This Government is hearless, deaf and blind. It cannot see, hear or understand the problems of the people,” he said pointing out that thousands of people in the 15 flood-affected districts were still living in make-shift sheds.

The Government promised and announced from roof-tops that 3 lakh pukka houses will be constructed and given to the flood-affected people before the onset of monsoon, he said pointing out that hardly any houses have been constructed even as the month of May of nearing its end.

Instead of wasting precious resources by organising ``pointless and unnecessary jamborees’’ like Global Investors’ Meet or ``Sadhaneya Samavesha” without having any achievements to show, he said the Government should first concentrate its time, energies and resources on tackling the basic problems of the people.

"Providing shelter and helping the people of the flood-affected districts is the urgent need of the hour,” he added.
