Mangaluru, Dec 6: Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V on Sunday, December 6 said that the relevance of the home guards has been time and again proved during times of distress. He was speaking during the 58th Raising Day of home guards and civil defence at the district home guards office at Mary Hill here.
Congratulating the home guards on their sincere efforts during the coronavirus crisis as frontline warriors, the DC said, "Sometimes when you do good work it may go unnoticed, but without losing hope you should continue your sincere service for the betterment of society.
"You have done a commendable job when the law and order was under threat and during the hard times," DC told the home guards.
"You have to work with extra responsibility and live up to people's expectation. In places like Mangaluru you will face challenges around the year for 365 days," he added.
B K Shivaprasad Rai, former commandant of district home guards said, "The staff of home guards and civil defence worked tirelessly during the disruption of law and order situation in the district and even during the time of natural calamities, before NDRF or other state forces arrived."
He also said that home guards and civil defence are a bridge between the law enforcement agencies and the government and therefore their role is very crucial in society.
Dr Muralee Mohan Chuntharoo, the commandant of district home guards said, "Irrespective of caste, religion and profession, without any discrimination, all people are serving as volunteers in the home guards. You are the soldiers of the country. Your service towards society during the time of distress and coronavirus crisis is really inspirational. Let us all join hands to create a healthy country."
He also stated that President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have lauded the service of the home guards for their immense service as forefront warriors during the pandemic in the country.
Ramesh, deputy commandant of home guards welcomed gatherings.
During the occasion, Ramesh in-charge unit officer, Suratkal, Jayanand in-charge unit officer Beltangady, Pandiraj in-charge unit officer Moodbidri, Shivappa Nayak in-charge unit officer Panambur, Sanjeeva in-charge unit officer Vittal were felicitated.
