Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VA)

Mangalore, Jun 6: Ravi Posavanike, senior photo-journalist of The Times of India, has bagged first place in the Canon ‘Politics & Politicians’ Photo Contest organized for photo-journalists.

The contest had received 175 entries from a total of 60 photographers. Posavanike was awarded with a Canon 7D camera. Anantha Subrahmanya of DNA, who won second place in the contest, was awarded with Canon 550D. Shashidhar, of Deccan Chronicle won third place and he too was awarded a Canon 550D. G K Hegde of Vijaya Karnataka and Deepangshu Sarkar of AFP were presented with Canon 1000D for their photographic talent.

The judge panel consisted of renowned photographers Wasim Khan, Sudhir Shivaraman and Dr Akash Ross.

The award winning photo of Posavanike was taken during the JDS supreme Deve Gowda’s visit to Mangalore during September 2008 church attacks. He is seen in the photo consoling the cloistered Carmel nuns at adoration monastery, which was the first place of worship to be attacked.

Posavanike, an ace photographer, is known for his special skills in photography that has brought about uniqueness and rendered interesting insight into otherwise routine work of clicking snaps for news. Besides being a senior cameraman and visits as resource person in photography workshops, he has also contributed human interest articles for the TOI.

He hails from Beernakaje in Kolthige village of Puttur taluk. After completing his schooling from Perlampady Higher Primary School and Shanmukha Deva High School in Perlampady, he joined St Aloysius College in the city. He has the credit of securing sixth rank in MA (Mass Communication and Journalism) examinations of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysore.
