Didigiri Hits Karat, is Yechury Next Red Boss?

New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) 'Didigiri' appears set to shatter the 'dadagiri' of the Red bosses after the battering they got from Cyclone Mamata in the West Bengal civic polls. The buzz is that CPI-M top man Prakash Karat is seriously thinking of handing over the baton to Sitaram Yechury.

Party insiders say although he still enjoys the full backing of the party's Kerala state committee, West Bengal leaders are not happy with him for severing all ties with the Congress over the India-US nuclear deal. Unlike Karat's Stalinist hardline, Yechury's pragmatism is seen widely as his plus point. They believe the party could re-build a bridge with the Congress under Yechury's leadership.

A section in the party believes a change in the CPI-M leadership may take place later this year before the assembly polls in West Bengal and Kerala next year.

Under the leadsership of Prakash Karat CPM got beatings from voters in W.Bengal and Kerala. He had failed to take all CPM stalewalts with him.

In Kerala V.S. Achutanadan,CM, has no support from him instead he is patronsing second line leadership like HM of Kerala.Under his leadership a veteran CPM leader and ex-Speaker of Lokasabha has shown gatepass for the reason of neutral on the issue of nuclear bill in which CPM aidded by BJP to vote against UPA, a main "Shaidanthika" oppenant of CPM.It was the first time or may be rare that CPM and BJP went hand in hand to vote against UPA regarding above said issue.Inspite of difference on the issue RJD,SP and other small parties were not went with BJP/CPM on the issue. So this turnaround may be a big blunder and ditching congress on the nuclear issue, which made DIDI to align with cong, made a big difference especially in West Bengal. So I presume,Mr Karat's tactic of political move failed miserably. Therefore to take moral responsibility Karat should resign from secretaryship of CPM.
