Poor Visibility : Mangalore Flight Diverted to Kozhikode

Mangalore, Jun 10 (DHNS): Less than 20 days after the Air India Express IX-812 crashed at Kenjar killing 158 persons on board the Dubai-Mangalore aircraft, another aircraft arriving from Dubai to Mangalore on Wednesday morning was diverted to Kozhikode, reportedly due to inclement weather.

Efforts to reach Airport Director Peter Abraham to know the reason for the diversion went in vain.

However, the three-hour delay in the arrival of Air India Express Dubai-Mangalore flight and the subsequent four-hour delay in its return journey gave rise to speculation among the public, especially the passengers and their kin.

Air India Station Manager Chellam Prasad told that Air India Express IX-812 Dubai-Mangalore flight, which was scheduled to land at 6.30 am, was diverted to Kozhikode following inclement weather conditions. The flight arrived at Mangalore after getting clearance from the Air Traffic Control at 9.30 am.

Vijay Mallya clearly told few years ago ' we do not want swanky terminals but state of the art infrastrcture' for the Indian Aviation. What we are seeing offlate is even Airports Authority of India is also in race with the private players to upgrade the terminals which does not add much value. Instead invest money to secure the latest equipments and gears and spend on improving infrastrcture which will help the aviation industry and general public.

I think Mangalore Airport is better for domestic only. So i request concerned authorities to operate international flights during day time only, if not better to operate domestic flights only.

The timing of all flights landing/ arriving in Mangalore should be after 8:00 am when there is proper light and visibility. The present timings of earlier than 8:00 am is unsuitable. I request the concerned authorities to kindly consider this and do the needful.
