Mangalore, Jun 11: Speaking at the Mangalore City Corporation review meeting here on Wednesday, MCC Commissioner Dr Vijayaprakash said though tender was invited for setting up of lab, no one came forward. Measures will be taken for re-tendering.

He said as per records, 17,300 trade licenses have been issued in the city corporation limits. There are many unregistered traders in the City limits. The MCC is planning to make use of SHG members to conduct a survey in this regard.

Vented dam

Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj said that the work on vented dam has been started with MCC depositing Rs 7 crore from its share.

The State Government’s contribution of Rs 28 crore is not yet released. To which, Minister assured to get it released soon.

Speaking on UGD works in City Corporation limits, Commissioner said that sewage treatment plants at Surathkal and Jeppu are under progress. The work on 18 wet wells are also under progress in the city.

KUDCEMP Engineer said that 365 km work on UGD has been completed in the City Corporation limits as on June 1. Another 35 km is pending.

Dr V S Acharya said since KUCEMP works cover only 70 per cent of the City Corporation limits, there is a need to prepare a comprehensive report on the outer area which does not come under KUDCEMP project now itself.

Awareness

MCC Commissioner said that MCC is trying its level best to create an awareness on solid waste management among school and college students through CD presentation and street plays.

The Minister directed Commissioner to prepare a powerful power point presentation on sold waste management to create an awareness.
 
The Commissioner said dumping yard has been developed at Pacchanady in 77.93 acres land. Sanitary land filling has been made at an estimated cost of Rs 9.39 crore. To check constant fire in dumping yard, an action plan of Rs 2.50 crore has been prepared for soil capping.

Best wards

Lauding Mangalore City Corporation for securing 8th place in cleanliness in the country, Minister said the State government is planning to select best City Corporations by August. Similarly, MCC should select best 3 wards by keeping a  parametre.

Energy conservation

To a query on energy conservation, Commissioner said Computerised remote controlled operation of street lights light motoring system will be implemented from PVS Circle to Lady Hill Circle on pilot basis. Florescent and Sodium lamps will replaced with LED lights to save electricity. 

The actual sanctioned vacancies in MCC is 1168. Of which, 456 vacancies are lying vacant in the MCC.

To which, Minister assured to recruit the staff for MCC and directed Commissioner to send a list of posts which can be outsourced till the new staff are recruited.

Uniform

The Minister also directed Commissioner to introduce uniforms for all the employees at the Corporation. A decent colour should be chosen for the same, he added.

Onetime settlement

A sum of Rs 2,142 lakh is pending to collect from water tax. “We are planning to introduce one time settlement of the bill,” said Minister.

He also directed MCC Commissioner to introduce group health insurance for the Paurakarmikas of the MCC.

MLA Yogish Bhat, Mayor Rajani Dugganna, District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
