Dammam : Saudi Konkan Youngsters Celebrate Annual Day

Dammam :  Saudi Konkan Youngsters Celebrate Annual Day

Media Release

Dammam, Jun 15: Saudi Konkan Youngsters (SKY), Dammam, had organized a get-together recently at Rezayat Compound Hall, Al Khobar.  The evening began with the recitation of hymns by little children.

Ronald Fernandes Shirthady, president of Saudi Konkan Youngsters, welcomed the gathering.  He gave a call to the youngsters to come forward and serve the Konkan community, and lend a helping hand to the club in achieving its objectives.

One-minute silence was observes as a mark of respect to ‘Konkan Kogul’,  the late Wilfy Remimbus, for his extraordinary contribution to the Konkani community, and also to the victims of the recent air crash at Mangalore.

Variety cultural programmes were also organized to entertain the Konkani-loving people and also to inculcate in them a love for their language and culture. Dances, songs, mono-acting, skit, key-board recital etc., were performed by the kids and adults alike.  Several spot games and a mega bumper draw held on the occasion succeeded in keeping the audiences thrilled.

Prominent personalities, Lancy Moras and Wilfred Dsouza, apart from other singers, came all the way from Jeddah to entertain the people with their talents and emotionally touching songs. Arun D’souza Palimar, president of Angan Konkneche, Riyadh, invited all the Mangaloreans to attend the Gulf Voice of Mangalore competition’s semifinal round, to be held in Riyadh later. His team presented a scintillating performance on the occasion.

The programme was compered ably by Alwyn Fernandes, Valencia, Laveena Pinto, Belthangady, and Amrith D’souza, Bondel, with their sense of humour, presence of mind, and witty dialogues throughout the show.

The entire hall was packed, with over 350 people attending the event. The event showcased the solidarity of the Konkani-speaking people living in Saudi Arabia. This also has come as an encouragement for the Konkan youngsters to organize more and more events in the future. Delicious Food was served to the crowd at the end.

The event was supported by lot of well-wishers, and the president of SKY felicitated the sponsors with flowers.

Vote of Thanks was proposed by Treasurer, Anil Tauro, Kateel.

It is very nice to see skit and dances. Give more chance to skit and dances. If one person is singing 4-5 songs means its very boring to see the stage.

Nice program eventhough it is against the law and the culture of the country.Such programs may arranged in the public halls where everybody can attend rather than the private company compound halls.

The Function was truly wonderful, a home away from home. The Crowd was wonderful and exciting events took place. My wife, Kids and I enjoyed every moment. Towards the End a Surprise of Surprise awaited us as we WON THE MEGA BUMPER DRAW. A first in SKY where a Husband conducts the draw and hands over the gift to his wife.
Tons of Love - Leslie, Nirmala, Nikita and Leon Ferrao.

Religious/Cultural gatherings not possible in Saudi Arabia ?

Well, after attending the well organized Saudi Konkan Youngster's(SKY)Annual day function in Alkhobar last week, I for one felt that if you have the will and the support from likeminded people, you indeed can have best of the gatherings- even in this part of the world !

Hats off to dear Roald Fernandes and the entire SKY team for your untiring efforts and giving us such
a wonderful show. While every participant gave their best, all credit to those who trained the young talents to perform in front of an appreciative crowd. The spellbinding 'Nimbuda Nimbuda' dance by Ms.Reema Mathias was indeed a pure classic.

Tribute to the departed in recent Air Crash by Wilfred D'Souza and Lancy Moras rendering his sentimental composition "Maincha Dudache Mol" left many of us with misty eyes. Both of them travelling all the way frm Jeddah for the function, speak volumes of their love for the cause of Konkani. Fine performance by our dear Riyadh particpants added extra flavour to the lively show. MC Alwyn ably supported by Amrith and Laveena with their witty humour did a great job with the mike. Food and hospitality were indeed par ecellence.

All in all, a great show and provided a rare opportunity for Konkan lovers from distant corners of Saudi Arabia to get-together and enjoy a great evening.

Thanks SKY for all your efforts and may you get more support to bring out still better performances in the time to come.
