Mangaluru, Jan 25: Former MLC and KPCC spokesperson Ivan D' Souza on Monday January 25 said, "The BJP-led government at the center is favouring the corporates by suppressing the farmers and working class in the country."

He was speaking during the protest organised by the Congress of Mangaluru South Vidhana Sabha Constituency opposing the union government's farm laws, in front of mini Vidhana Soudha, here.

He said, "The BJP government is supporting the corporates like Ambani, Adani and others. Out of 80% farmers in the country, 60% are small and middle class farmers. The farm laws introduced by the BJP government will affect these farmers. Hence, the BJP government should withdraw these farm laws.

"The Land Revenue Amendment Act and Amendment to APMC Act are anti-farmer policies of the BJP government. BJP has failed to provide justice to the farmers," he said.

Also he said that the BJP government is introducing the laws abruptly through ordinances. “The BJP led union government is asking the labourers to work for 14 hours a day, instead of 8 hours,” he said.

Former MLA JR Lobo said, "From the past 60 days, farmers are protesting demanding justice. But the BJP-led union government is insensitive towards the farmers.

He also said that 70% of the country’s population is dependent upon agriculture. “The Congress had supported the farmers by introducing the green revolution. But, the BJP government's move is affecting the farmers. The BJP government which came to power in the name of the farmers is following anti-farmers policies.”

Congress leader A C Vinayaraj also spoke on the occasion.

Congress is trying its best to survive. Unless they bring leaders with good caliber, people will not trust them. Classic example is the people who are protesting here. Instead of protesting, these leaders must explain what improvements will congress do for farmers if they come to power.

Mr, Ivan, ,you have to really explain in detail how '' The farm laws introduced by the BJP government will affect these farmers'' . Point to point., very precisely. and clarify how Congress will improve it .
If not people wont understand or buy such stuff what you guys say. It would like you are just protesting for the sake of protesting .
Thats the problem Congress has been facing. Congress Cadres have been countered by such questions by common people during a door to door campaign and they had no answers. To this day , no one know what Congress would do differently in these cases. No wonder some fringe parties are becoming a stronger opposition for BJP.

There should be a result of 'Congress Mukht Bharat' - shouldn't there ?? BJP wants a Hindu country, SDPI wants an Islamic country. Now, fight tooth and nail.

BJP imposes Anti-cow slaughter bill, SDPI will promise to abolish the law. Wait and see how many want to refrain fbeef consumption. With sowing hatred towards Congress, Modi has hit his own leg with an axe.

Mr. Deshbakth, I beg to differ .Mr, Belma no where has mentioned Modi /BJP. Lets be pragmatic. The inefficiency , lethargic approach and lack of interest of Congress has led to the emergence of such parties. There is no democracy in Congress , either at the center or the state. If you are well connected you get a chance to contest repeatedly despite numerous defeats to your credit. There is no grooming of young dynamic youngsters to carry on the mantle. Nobody wants to be sloganeer for his entire life, hence they hop to greener pastures. SDPI did really hard ground work for the elections and are still engaged in the same .House to house visits are still on. All Congress does is, the occassional protest of press conferences you see above.
