Udupi: Fisheries minister S Angara hoists tri-colour at Republic Day celebrations

Udupi, Jan 26: The district administration on Tuesday January 26, celebrated the 72nd Republic Day at Mahatma Gandhi district stadium Ajjarkad here.

Fisheries minister S Angara hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour from the district armed police, scouts and guides, NCC cadets, home guards and other teams.

In his address, Angara said, “The government has planned to construct 15 vented dams at a cost of Rs 49.97 crore out of which 12 vented dams have completed. As much as 1,189 hectares of agricultural land are receiving water.

“At an estimated cost of Rs 177.50 lac, a unit will be installed for solid waste management in Alevoor under Swachh Bharat mission. DPR with an estimated cost of Rs 1,441.93 lac is ready for approval.

“For the development of district tourism, the government has granted four house boats and permission has been given for five home stays this year. Rs one crore is sanctioned for the development of Ajjarkad Bhujanga park and Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Parashurama Theme Park in Karkala. Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Trasi-Maravante beach.

“Vision plan 2021-31 has been drafted for the development of Udupi tourism and accordingly 104 tourist places have been identified in the plan,” he said.

Regarding PWD and Inland Transport department, minister Angara said, “The PWD has taken up 31 works under flood rehabilitation programme the estimated cost of which is Rs 1,844 lac. It also taken up 144 road construction works of 122.40 km by spending Rs 8,138 lac to improve state highway, district and other roads projects. A total of seveb bridges are being constructed at a cost of Rs 1,805 lac. PWD is developing 57 roads of 27.54 km, at a cost of Rs 1,487.12 lac. Six bridges construction work, at a cost of Rs 385 lac is also undertaken under SCP, TSP and Nabard scheme.”

Over Food and Civil Supply department minister Angara said, “The department has distributed BPL and Anthyodaya cards to 1,93,714 families. As many as 923 farmers have utilized the government facilities in purchasing agriculture tools and machines. As many as 1,54,592 farmers have registered under Prime Minister Kisan Samman Fund. Rs 175.33 crore of subsidy amount has been given to 1,47,216 farmers.”

Angara earlier began his speech remembering Dr B R Ambedkar and paid floral tribute to his portrait.

Achievers in various fields, successful farmers and students, who scored good marks in SSLC, were felicitated on the occasion.

Cultural programmes were performed by the students. March-past was performed by the students, armed police, police department, and NCC cadets of various schools from across the district.

G Jagadeesha, deputy commissioner, Naveen Bhat Y, CEO, zZilla panchayat Udupi, Raghupati Bhat, Udupi MLA, Sadashiva Prabhu, assistant deputy commissioner, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, president, Coastal Development Authority, Dinakar Babu, president, zilla panchayat, Sandhya Kamath, president, taluk panchayat, Vishnuvardan, district superintendent of police, Chethan Kumar, SP, coastal guard police, Sumithra R Naik, president, City Municipality Council Udupi and others were present.
