Giant of Bombay, Hero of our Mangalore (Bejai) who strived hard for implementing the Konkan Railway Project should be honoured in a befitting manner by giiving name of late George Fernandes to Bejai Road and Mangalore Railway Junction which will definitely make justice to his invaluable contribution . The initiative taken by Bejai Parish Priest Fr.J.B Saldanha needs to be appreciated.

Suggestion to name Mangalore Railway Station after George Fernandes is a very valid one. Legendary leader's contribution to the welfare of Railway workers & then Restaurant workers is well known! His simplicity, warmth, communication skill & more than anything the courage is subject of folklores! As Defense Minister, he was instrumental deserved facilities to Army personnel serving in Himalaya's sub zero temperatures. Not a single person might oppose the move, even at this highly fractious time. I hope this materializes sooner than later.

It will be a fitting tribute to name the railway station in memory of late George Fernandes, the legendary leader who dedicated his life first in the service of railway workers and later served as railway minister, gifting Konkan Railway to our region. But merely renaming M’lore Junction will be inappropriate without upgrading the station to a virtual new terminal which could be an originating point for all south bound trains, thereby decongesting M’lore Central.
