Mangaluru, Jan 29: The driver of a crane had miraculous escape from death when his crane came in contact with live high tension electricity wires on Thokottu-Melkar road on Friday January 29.

The incident took place when widening of the road was in progress.

The driver of the crane jumped from the crane and had a miraculous escape. A nursing student at the spot escaped from coming in contact with the cable by a whisker. The incident disrupted traffic on the road for some time.

Mescom assistant executive engineer attended to emergency work with the help of linemen risking their lives. Residents of Madani made way for traffic.

There would have been a major disaster if the several lines of cables in which several kilowatt of electricity was passing had snapped on the buses and vehicles on the road.

Some places the cables are so lowly laid with huge container trucks passing, which is just a kissing distance away from touching the metal containers & killing innocent people!

What an unscientific method in India!!!
You go to any gulf countries
You cannot see a single cable in open air
    All are concealed underground
What is the problem if they put all electric cables underground?
    How many dangers we face?
Whenever I visit India I afraid to walk on streets of Mangalore
    Roadside everywhere cluster of wires
    Anytime anything can happen!
    There are no circuit breaker.
In gulf whenever an electric wire touches the ground suddenly it trips and no harm for human life.
Where as in in India it will trip after human life is lost
Thank you very much for our indian technology

High voltage cables are so haphazardly connected with substandard equipment that chances of coming in contact with them are very high!

John Mangalore /Kuwait,wish you would stop only praising gulf and has no word of your own country.Sure India has many problems.

Gulf countrys were built up by people of several specialists from other countrys. with lot of money where they can afford. Our infra structure is very bad noone takes any interest from sides of politic.Second people self are also dont care policy. It is a big mess with cables in mangalore .There is no place also to dig for underground. If they start in one side and close next year will dig for another matter. If mangalore MCC takes interest, and MLAs ,anything can be done. Here I just ask what was the operator doing when he was operating or moving?Something else´He knew he should lower his crane arm since cables were there. He should be questioned. In all developed countries too cables are underground ,and checked from time to time.
