Moodbidri: Prayers With a Difference – Oblations Offered at Kodyadka Temple

Moodbidri, Jun 21: At a time when most of the pujas, prayers and oblations in temples are organized by devotees either wanting to get rid of their personal woes or aspiring for boons with the help of presiding deities, a different kind of religious procedures were conducted at Hosanadu Kodyadka Goddess Annapoorneshwari Temple on Sunday June 20, for those who lost lives in the May 22 air crash at Mangalore airport. This temple is located about 40 kms away from Mangalore.

Sanjeevini Mrityunjaya and Chandika oblations were organized at the said temple. Several relatives of those who lost their lives in the said crash, their well-wishers and members of the public participated in the prayers. About ten families including non-Hindus, participated in the programmes. Prayers were offered to the Goddess to help the souls rest in peace. In case of passengers who were not Hindus, prayers were offered in a separate hall. Prayers were also offered for the divine grace of the Goddess, to ensure that the region does not witness such unfortunate incidents henceforth.

Former minister, K Amarnath Shetty, Mijarguttu Anand Alva, Kadri Navneet Shetty, Bajpe airport manager, Chellam Prasad, and several other dignitaries were present. A condolence meeting was held for the deceased passengers of the Air India Express flight, that was held later, was addressed by Jayaram Hegde and Chellam Prasad, among others.

Temple sources said that the management had extended invitation to 108 bereaved families. They clarified that Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, who was to grace the occasion, could not come, as he had to attend to some urgent programme at Dharmasthala.
